The Cheerful Lady
The Cheerful leader
Have you ever met that woman that is just so nice, just so kind, just so sweet? And you thought to yourself either she’s hiding something or she must be the most boring woman in the world? Well I’m turning into that woman. Not because I am but because I am finding in the workplace to be a woman and to be anything but kind and nice and to be someone’s boss will tag you forever with the difficult tag? Why do we have to put smiling faces after our sentences to soften a direct order? Who cares if anyone says you’re difficult? I recently heard a story told of a woman, who’s a supervisor who I have been told is quite difficult. It appears she’s a little too blunt and has high timetable standards and she’s get tagged with the title “she’s a bit difficult.” Which we all know is code for she’s a Bitch. But I have to ask myself why does she so easily get tagged with this line but it takes outright ass-holery for a man to be called an ass-hole. This is not about fairness in the workplace this about the unfairness of perception in the workplace. You know what though? That woman get things done. I’ll be pleasant and sweet but when I need to get things done, why not let the bi….difficult woman out? I bet she’s having a lot more fun than me…this smile frozen on my face is starting to ache.

Yup, I was being crazy
New boss has no issues with my post-baby work hours. Going forward: less agonizing, more cool projects, and same amount of mornings and evenings with the little guy! To quote the exchange: Me [after approximately 2 hrs of drafting and redrafting]: I’m still figuring out the whole working mom thing, but given [The Monkey's] routine and our caregiving schedule, I think it’s best to plan most of my in-person meetings between the hours of 8:45am and 4:30pm. I will always be available to work remotely after he’s asleep (usually by 6:30pm) or in the mornings before I’m in the office. I can also plan ahead to come in earlier and / or stay later for any high-priority meetings. Him [after approximately 2 seconds]: Makes sense. Ha. Plus the stuff I'll be working on is really, really cool. Getting excited! Leaning in! Loud noises!
