As a naturally curious person, I feel like this is a perfectly normal question to ask.
I've been thinking of creating a PA blog for a long time -- but why this one?
I'd been having a tough(ish) week, and by chance happened to chat up a total stranger at a cafe. We couldn't have talked for more than two minutes, maybe less. When she left, she told me to have a nice day. She really, truly meant it. She had the kind of smile where you saw the cheerful glint in her eyes. The kind of voice that felt like a warm hug hitting you mid-air. That simple farewell left me reeling. A total stranger interacted with me enough, invested in me enough, that she felt compelled to wish me a good day.
In the grand scope of things, it's not much. In the grand scope of things, she probably never thought about how it struck me as powerful and went on about her day as usual.
In the grand scope of things, we are nothing among the starstuff and the exploding supernovas and the planets that are so far beyond our comprehension.
But I want to be that person who wishes someone well. Who helps them get well. I want to do the little things that make other people's days better. I want to suture a wound, care for a child, comfort a family. I think I would be good at those things.
Not everyone can have a nice day. Sometimes, you just have a shitty one. But the act of reaching out, of genuinely extending your feelings to someone -- that counts. However small it may be, if it is genuine, I believe it will make a difference.
Have a nice day. I mean it. Tell the people that you love to have one, tell the people you hate. Because at the end of time, when we are dust and memories are alll we have, all we will remember is how someone made us feel.
