36. a kiss to the shoulder
"You're a real pain in the ass, ya know that? Rarely in the fun way." Nicholas ground out through his teeth, but it was harder to keep up the gruff facade when it was just them at the end of the day patching each other up after a fire fight. There was nobody here to keep up appearances for but himself, really, when Vash's impossibly big, baby blue eyes saw right through to his core the day they met and have been taking him apart ever since.
"Always rushin' into things like an idiot." But hands remained gentle as he affixed the last bandage to Vash's arm, doing his damndest not to succumb to the anger that always started to surface any time he thought about just how much the scum on this planet have hurt this man who never deserved it. Sometimes he thought with that anger he could burn the whole of the world down himself so he and Vash could start anew all on their own, but unfortunately that could never be an option. Death would be far too kind for all the trash on this planet, anyway.
"I've probably already got gray hairs 'cause of your bullshit." And the Punisher's tone would start to soften as he let all the negative feelings gradually slip away because he didn't want to waste the whole of their time together pissed at the entire universe. It was too much of a waste, and time like this was precious.
"Don't let it happen again..." It was a plea more than anything as a head of messy black hair found itself falling onto Vash's shoulder, but one he knew would never be fulfilled. That's just not how this works, he knew better, and all he could do was his best to play backup and drag them both back alive.
"...Vash" The name rarely slipped from his tongue in favor of the plethora of nicknames the gunslinger had earned himself, but sometimes it just felt right. Sometimes Nicholas knew that the other deserved to hear it, just as he deserved all the gentle care his own destructive self could offer, and in those times it'd always be paired with a kiss which this time was pressed to the very shoulder his head had lolled onto at the end of this exhausting day.
