Alex and his silly little expressions
Is F2 really working as feeder series anymore?
2017 - Champion makes it’s to F1. Typical rookie season a few too many crashes but shed loads of talent. Has gone on to win races, take poles, lead the Championship. In no danger of losing his seat. (How the system is meant to work)
2018 - Top 3 came through. All still there (though one had to take a year out). One has just won a race, all had podiums, two of them have started on pole. (Last time the system worked)
2019 - Vice Champion makes it F1, Champion has to wait another 4 years for a shot, just as the Vice-Champion loses his seat.
2020 - Three come through but no room for that year’s Vice Champion (who seemingly will now never get a shot). We all know what happened to one, two years in the Champion loses their seat, still one remains (some shocked he lasted year one). No podiums or poles between them.
2021 - No room for the Champion till 2022 (and then what a mess that was), no room at all for the Vice-Champion. However our 3rd place winner makes it (under a bit of pay driver controversy) but has had a solid first season. (Dare I say the most convincing first season since the arrival of the 2018 top 3?)
2022- Guess what? No room for the champion again. A seat is offered to someone who still hasn’t secured his F2 final standing and doesn’t have the super licence points yet.
Seriously, what are we even doing this for? I know a lot depends on spaces becoming available and the 2018 lot, well teams were fighting for them. But honestly, should F2 only be offering a chance to be involved in a pick n mix situation for F1 teams, where the “winners” more often than not lose out? Especially when you consider there are a few in Indycar who would also love the shot, are getting F1 tests and some already have the super licence points.
I was certain we would see Liam Lawson in an F1 seat, now I’m not so sure.
don’t wanna talk baby, i just wanna dance drive (2021)
