finally, a color palette nicholas actually looks good in!
(image description) an edited version of a four-panel comic which has been altered to feature the characters christine anderson and nicholas waters from the archive 81 podcast drawn in a crude anime art style. the first panel depicts christine sitting at a table drawing a silver coyote with purple eyes and a studded collar and smoking a blunt as nicholas stands beside her and asks, “what is that. is that your fucking fursona? that’s cringe.” the next panel shows christine yelling with a wide open mouth, displaying stylized pointy teeth, as she yells back, “you’re cringe!!!!” with several exclamation points as nicholas stands there with a blank expression. the third panel depicts christine returning to her drawing while nicholas stands silently with sad, pleading eyes. the final panel shows nicholas weeping over a sink in front of a bathroom mirror, staring at himself as he cries. i have suddenly just found myself emotionally vulnerable and crying thinking about how christine was presented with an opportunity... a chance to choose between her two families—the irons and nicholas—and how she didn’t even hesitate to invite nicholas along for the adventure.. but also how christine stood her ground after nicholas insisted he wasn’t cut out for a life like that, and how nicholas, despite trying to persuade her to stay, ultimately listens to christine and respects her decision without inadvertently making her feel judged for it. a large portion of nicholas’ character arc was coming to understand his sister as a person despite having so little in common with her other than sharing a father. he wants his sister but he also wants her to be happy.. and if being with lou on the irons in the city makes her happy, he shows just how much he cares about her by letting her chase that happiness.
