hey! forgive the intrusion, but I admire you as a person (I am too shy to go off of anon to say it) and value your thoughts. when it comes to reading, is there any websites you use to read them? and also.. do you have any luck yourself on remembering and retaining the bits you find that are wonderful to learn? there's so much I want to pick up and learn and I'm not sure where to put them all inside my brain
😼NOT INTRUSIVE AT ALL i love to hear from everyone in the world 😸 this is crazy cus i've literally been googling how to learn as many vast amounts of trivia as possible i also want to learn many things. unfortunately i have severe memory problems 😅 you know how it is...
well, i like reading wikipedia articles, and i pirate my books off zlibrary, but you need tor to access it now but its not that hard really. and people dont like the google ai overview when u ask a specific type of question but honestly just check the sources it links yourself to verify you should always get in the habit of double checking to see if something's as it's said it is. Being critical of how things are written is important cus you know how wikipedia can have a bias for stuff like western imperialism
but learning's a skill you can practice and curiosity is something you cultivate like anything else! i get in the habit of googling ANYTHING i happen to question. like for example, i got curious about why the ottoman empire fell, so i went and googled and looked at history articles and wikipedia and kept going if i had a follow up question. same for whenever you have an assumption, like i wanted to make a post about how it was funny how bad taffy was for your teeth even as it was one of the earliest candies made but then i stopped and thought, wait... i dont know for SURE how early it was made, i was just assuming... and so i googled it and found out about the honey candies they made in ancient egypt and stuff like that. so fun!
i also like watching videos about historical events, but i watch them over and over and over again, since i dont really remember the details or dates, and you remember more through repetition eventually. I also find out a lot about the world by researching stuff for OC worlds, like I learned that popsicles were invented here in california 😸
Something i've done recently that i think could be adapted for studying stuff: when my friends would send me long things to read, sometimes i'd have no clue how to absorb it all or respond in a detailed manner. so i tried writing down bullet notes of my thoughts as i read, whenever i had a thought, even if it was silly like being shocked by something or a question that popped in my head. practice your observation skills! take note of what sticks out to you, what makes you curious, what confuses you on first reading.
Also, try getting a notes app on your phone, or like a little notebook or something to write interesting stuff down. i do it all the time i got hundreds of notes on stuff. and something i would also need to tell myself: maybe its okay if you still cant fully recall all the details of things you learn, like the exact date of the boston molasses incident (january 15th 1919) and you have to re-google it every time... at least you make an effort to learn about the world around you, thats the important part
