Towers of Silence (Dakhma)
The Zoroastrians dispose of their dead by laying them on the platform and letting the vultures do their deed. Once they’re finished, the bodies are pushed into the central pit. Zoroastrianism is mainly practiced in hot/desert climates where bones in the pit will eventually crumble into dust under the sun.
This is done to avoid contaminating the sacred elements. Cremation contaminates air and fire, while burial contaminates the soil. Evil will also rush into the dead if they are not properly laid to rest.
