You know you want to!! You’ll be supporting so many artists and staff that you know. We have received a bunch of applications from folks who are struggling financially. This pandemic isn’t over, and jobs have not returned. It’ll will be a while before the NYC theater community is back.
Can you give the equivalent of a ticket to Sleep No More to these people we all love? $120 would really help! After all, how much would we have all spent on theater over the past 13 months? (Actually, any amount helps! But the price of one ticket would be great!)

#173 at the McKittrick... I was there for Nick Atkinson’s last night at Max, an event that I am in denial over and refusing to believe will actually stick, although I wish him the very very best in his future projects. I know that the friendship I have formed with him through the years extends beyond the red velvet curtains of the Manderley Bar, and while I know I will see Nick, I am really , REALLY going to miss Max. Calloway was there last night, bringing back the original Mandergay pairing that has given me so much joy over the years. The only thing that would have made it more perfect would have been if Violet could have been there. Max/Nick IS the McKittrick for me, as I know he is for many. [sniff]
The night inside the McKittrick was basically an entire night of bouncing between Austin’s Boy Witch and Quinn’s Porter (with a break in the bar for a last dance with Max).
I was talking with ReadWithJoy and FleepNoMore in line, and I said that one of the things I have heard was a thing that I keep missing is Austin Tyson’s Boy, and that I wish it would happen. Basically, I’m a witch and manifested it into reality. So now ReadWithJoy and I are casting spells to make NATE CARTER BOY WITCH happen. Please join us. The last time I asked the universe for something like this was Virginia Logan Hecate, and that took 4 years-- the world deserves to not wait for Nate.
Austin T’s Boy was really terrific! Apparently he missed the notice that Boy Witches have had a plot for 7 years to pass me over for the 1-1, because I got it, which makes 6 times in 7 years, 173 shows, and I can’t even estimate how many Boy Witch loops.
I had followed Boy out of the first party with the intention of 1st looping him, but there was another BW fan that I knew that clearly had the same idea and I didn’t feel like bumping up against her for an hour, so I stayed back and joined Quinn’s Porter from his 1-1 all the way through to the 1st prophecy and picked up Austin for the entire 2nd loop.
I have never spent a lot of time with Quinn, and I have to say his Porter 1-1 was pretty great. His timing and his build-up to the climax, while still very much in line with tradition, had subtle variations that made it feel completely new and fresh to me. Kudos!
So thanks to Nick & William and Austin & Quinn for one of the best visits in recent months!

Maximilian has left the building...
Yes, Maximilian Martell has checked out of the McKittrick Hotel.
I wish I could write a post that would do justice to Nick Atkinson and all he brought to the McKittrick Hotel over the past years. He IS the Manderley Bar, and I have a difficult time imagining the place without him. He played Maximilian Martell as the ultimate gentleman, and he never failed to personify both class and a slightly (or not-so-slightly) bawdy sense of humor. I’ll miss his whispered comments that always made me smile.
Nick was the first person in the building to recognize me and help me to feel at home, and some of my favorite memories in the McKittrick are of dancing with and talking with him. Over the years he has become a friend, and I’m so grateful for his encouragement and passion for living. He is moving on to some pretty great adventures...but we will miss him.
So raise a glass and toast the legend----Nick Atkinson as Maximilian Martell...
Of note: If you would like to see him one last time, he will be hosting the Follies on Tuesday night. And then Max flies off to exotic and unknown lands, perhaps never to be seen again.
(Although...that’s unlikely. I’m sure we’ll see him again someday!)
