Retronaut Selects: BRKN LOVE - BRKN LOVE (2020)

Let me start by saying that this album is the only album I've been looking forward to...and it does not disappoint.

I listened to "Flies In The Honey", "Papercuts", "Shot Down" and "I Can't Lie", countless times as part of my countdown to Valentine's Day.

On Valentine's Day, I woke up early, and made sure that it was the first album I listened to. I was absolutely blown away by it.

I was in hysterics for the entire album because I was so excited that it was released, and that I got to finally hear all the songs that weren't released until the album came out.

I only had one bonus beforehand, which was from watching Justin's session for Paste, where he performed a few tunes acoustically, and one of them was "Seventeen". He did it while he had strep throat and his performance was still phenomenal!!

From "I See Red" to "Toxic Twin" to "Complicated" to "Don't Panic" to "In Your Hands", it was one fantastic song after another.

I'm setting aside "Oxygen", because I actually had a weird prediction that I was right about. I was reading all different interviews that Justin has done, and I recall him mentioning that the album was going to have ideas of both love and loss.

From this, I somehow assumed that there would be some kind of love themed song on the album, oddly fitting for Valentine's Day. The release day came...and I was right.

The last few seconds of "Complicated" played...and once that song ended, "Oxygen" began. Quite possibly the sweetest song I've ever heard, and I had chills as I listened to it.

Every second of this album is amazing. Justin's vocal talents are unmatched by anyone on the scene today. The musicianship is beyond fantastic.

BRKN LOVE are the band that we should be taking an example from because they prove that you can be cool and be unafraid of sharing your feelings.

Political Parties After the Zombie Apocalypse

            It is 6 months into the Zombie Apocalypse, and already, a new world order has formed.  Granted, this isn’t the world order imagined by the Rothschilds and the Illuminati, no this is a world run by zombies.  The few surviving non-zombified humans hide and scavenge for food.  There is only so much food and water that they will have access to so if the zombies don’t get them, they will surely die of starvation or dehydration.  The healthy humans have taken to form packs, with one person leading, usually a male.  They have found solid shelter to hide in, like malls and office buildings, key part being the limited entrances so as to prevent intrusion.  Inside these packs, there are two main duties; scavenge for food and ammunitions, and protect the shelter.  The duties are split up evenly giving ample free time to contemplate their predicament.  This leaves the packs distracted, nervous, and unready.  Those that are brave set out for open land to farm, but few packs succeed. There are also scout troops, these would consist of four man teams, heavily armed, with the goal of finding other healthy humans and bringing them together.  They can go months at a time without seeing another human and because of their nature of their task; they have tallied up the most zombie kills and are viewed much like the cowboys of the Wild West.

            Of the packs that have managed to successfully merge, three dominant political parties arose:  Survive, Cure, and Kill.  The Survive Party, viewed by both other parties as lacking the foresight, attempts to establish communities that are secure and safe from zombies, where means of production can take place.  Only three communities were successfully established though only one still remains.  Community Bravo was overrun by zombies, having drastically underestimated the strength needed for the outside walls.  Community Delta was destroyed from within when an infected man went full zombie on the inside of the walls and quickly spread the virus.  Community Washington is the only community to still stand and the largest centralization of healthy humans on earth.  Because of all of the previous failures, Community Washington is governed as a police state to ensure safety for all of the inhabitants. 

The Cure Party taken refuge in hospitals and laboratories, and almost entirely made up of doctors and scientists.  They believe that they can create an antidote that will reverse the affects and return the earth to humans.  The Cure Party is antagonized by the other parties for not being religious enough.  Because of the graveness of the apocalypse, and the philosophical questions of life and soul brought about by zombies, most members of the Kill and Survive parties have recognized zombies as demons released upon earth, with the souls of those infected already being released to the afterlife.   Because of the view that zombies are soulless and curing them will not bring the soul back from the afterlife, the Cure Party has been nicknamed Frankenstein’s Army.  Many believe that even if the virus were cured, the resulting people would still be abominations, soulless monsters.  Because of this fear, the Cure Party not only needs to defend against zombies, but also threats from more radical members of other parties, this multifaceted attack and the difficulties with communication have caused their efforts to progress slowly.

            The Final party is the Kill Party.  The Kill party believes that the only way to ensure protection against the zombie menace is to essentially commit genocide and wipe them all out.  The Kill Party operates out of small mobile encampments which continuously move to prevent the need for strong defenses.  The Kill Party is appreciated by both parties because their motives and actions align with the religious beliefs of the Survivors, and Frankenstein’s Army relies on the Killers to provide test subjects.  Although much of what the Killers accomplished is lacking record, it is rumored that they tactically nuked the major cities like New York City and Los Angeles, where the Zombie numbers were predicted to be in the tens of millions. Overall the killers have appeared to be the most successful, however the Survivors seem to have created the beginnings of a new civilization.
