Franz Ferdinand have risen to the very top of rock’n’roll royalty – and here’s the proof. Noel Gallagher turned up for the penultimate gig of the band’s sold-out tour at the London Astoria last Thursday (May 6), watching the whole of Alex Kapranos and co’s performance from the balcony. Afterwards, Noel talked to the band individually, then he and Franz frontman Alex were seen chatting intensely for over half an hour. They ignored everyone else at the aftershow party, which took place at the Infinity Club in London’s Mayfair.
As if to cement the band’s new status, the previous night had seen supermodel and rock’n’roll mascot Kate Moss in the audience. The star-studded party took place during a triumphant three-night stand in London for the Franz boys. Wednesday and Thursday saw them play the Astoria, while the final night (May 7) saw them play the new Coronet venue in Elephant & Castle, with support coming from The Beatings and Ricky Spontane.
But there’s no rest in Franz world – this week they have returned to mainland Europe for even more dates. Then they’ll return to the UK on May 22 when they join Damien Dempsey to support Morrissey at his long-awaited homecoming show at Manchester MEN Arena.
