Beirut Kick Off Tour for New Album in Brooklyn with Three Shows
Zach Condon’s band, Beirut—rounded out live by Nick Petree (drums), Paul Collins (bass), Kyle Resnick (trumpet), Ben Lanz (horns) and Aaron Arntz (keys)—put out their fifth album, the stellar Gallipoli (stream it here), last Friday. Using music and lyrics, the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist takes listeners across the world with him, Condon’s material revealing the sonic influences of the place and time the songs were written. The group kicks off a major North American tour in support of the new tunes next week with three shows in Kings County. And while Sunday’s show at Brooklyn Steel and next Saturday’s show at Music Hall of Williamsburg (where the band recorded Beirut: Live at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in 2009) are already sold out, tickets still remain to catch Beirut on Monday at Brooklyn Steel. Helado Negro, whose wistful multilingual, guitar-driven songs will draw in many fans, opens all three performances. —Elizabeth Ramanand | @Lizochka

Beirut in concert last night
heh... “smilin’ Nick Petree” If anyone remembers my completely amazing and very artistic drawing of Beirut they will know I have a great appreciation for Nick and his eternal cheerfulness. I’m glad this article seems to as well.
