New “NYPD Blue” Series in the Works at ABC

Variety has revealed that ABC has giving a new NYPD Blue series a pilot production commitment. Matt Olmstead and Nick Wootton, the original series’ writers and executive producers, will write and executive produce the sequel series. Jesse Bochco, NYPD Blue co-creator Steven Bocko’s son, will executive produce and direct. Dayna Bochco will produce.

The new series will follow Theo, Andy Sipowicz’s (played by Dennis Franz in the original series) son, as he works to earn his detective’s shield as well as solve his father’s murder.

... The idea of Walter wanting to be overextending with a child who's in his midst, by showing him the coolest stuff out there and be like, "You gotta see this. This is ama-- This is where your people are."  And not understanding - and not having the capacity to understand yet - [Ralph] may be a genius, but he's a kid too. I think it brought us into a very complicated parenting story. How far and how fast can you bring along a kid who his clearly precocious on so may levels, but in other ways still just a kid? We had all these sort of emotional things that we'd seeded throughout the season that we really wanted to see come to a head.

So according to Nick W. in this interview, there’s a possibility that there’ll be 25 episodes of Scorpion instead of 24. Let’s hope for the best! :)
