What a fun #WeirdAssWednesday with our friend John Reynolds who loves to play in a style of #NickLucas and other 30s artist. John is very unique and such an amazing #guitarist! Here he is playing our 1923 @gibsonguitar L-3 #Archtop with #oval hole at #NormansRareGuitars! **WATCH FULL VIDEO ON OUR @YOUTUBE CHANNEL, link on our bio. What do you think of this #GibsonL3? @AllGuitarNetwork (at Norman's Rare Guitars) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0mNlOAHOgC/?igshid=1mjm64tzy3905

Here's my second installment for #FlatTopFriday. It's a 1926 #Mauer 562, spotted this week at @folkwaymusic, and if it is even possible, this #guitar is even MORE incredible than the #Gibson #NickLucas Special in my last post! So what is a "Mauer"? I can hear you thinking that. I didn't know either. Mauer was a brand of guitar made by the #LarsonBrothers company in #Chicago in the early part of the 20th Century. These guys made guitars that rivaled the quality and workmanship of #Martin and Gibson...so why had I never heard of them?!? I still gots lots and lots to learn about #guitars! Anyhoo: this little gem is INCREDIBLE. It is about the same size as a Martin size 1 (i.e VERY small), and yet it is loud and full sounding thanks to the #Larson Bros. innovative laminated #bracing and slight arching of the top and back. I have never heard a guitar that is only slightly larger than one of them big #ukuleles that sounded so much bigger than it was. It was incredible! And just look at the fanciness! It's decorated like a Martin Style 40-something. But it's like baby-sized! It's cute AND spectacular. The best part? It's all original...and it has never in its life had any repairs! No cracks, no nothing! The owner of #Folkway told me in all his multiple decades (lol...jk: he's not THAT old!) of working with incredible #vintage #acousticguitars he has never seen one of these in this condition. Un. Believable. He's gonna reset the neck, and then it will be available for sale. And despite its incredible sound, beauty, condition, and age, it will not be as expensive as you may think. But you will have to contact Folkway directly to ask about pricing. 😀
1935 #Gibson #NickLucas Special. I haven't done a #FlatTopFriday in a while so here's something VERY "special" spotted at @folkwaymusic this week. #Folkway says the 14 fret #maple version of the #NickLucasSpecial is considered by many to be one of the finest-sounding #acousticguitars ever built, but are so rare most people have never encountered one in the flesh. This #guitar is completely original except for the #saddle and #frets, the #neck has never been reset and come with its original case. I won't tell you the price (check Folkway's website if you want to know the actual number!) but suffice it to say that this guitar is worth about as much as a 1958 #Sunburst #Stratocaster. Plus the label inside the sound hole has a really nice drawing of Nick himself! 😉 #guitars #vintageguitars #gibsonguitars #vintagegibsons #acoustic #flattop #guitarshopping #guitarphotography
