[work has been Busy Season 2.0 and i was so exhausted i legit curled up under the covers as soon as i got home. and since not-fic is as good an escape as any, here are some nickyovi thoughts i guess…]

i’ve tweeted a bit about nickyovi tsubasa au because i love the idea of human chess and nicky being the “king” that controls the pieces. in the original manga, the combatants’ physical abilities in the arena are solely dependent on the mental strength of their king. which means that, despite the fact that he has no actual weapons in his hands, nicky’s the one in control, dictating plays and grinding down their opponent’s pieces until their king eventually breaks.

what i personally love about this universe is that it allows 1) alex to literally fight for nicky (with some giant-ass sword) even though it’s just for sport, 2) nicky to boss alex around while trusting him absolutely when alex decides to go solo for a kill 3) alex to look over his shoulder at nicky after a particularly impressive move and winking - nicky ignores him because he has to devote his full attention to keeping tj & carly in the game

and when the game is over, nicky is usually so exhausted that it takes all his energy to get off the throne and out of the arena. as soon as they are back in the tunnel where there are no cameras, nicky slumps against alex and alex murmurs “i got you” as he puts an arm around nicky’s shoulder to steady him.
