Nicolas Joly
‘fingerprint’ Technique
Nicholas Joly is a revolutionary winemaker from the Loire Valley in France. He is a supreme advocate of biodynamic farming, a method of organic farming originally that follows a holistic understanding of agricultural processes by treating animals, crops, and the earth as a single living thing.
Biodynamic farming encompasses the scientific practices of organic farming including the use of natural pesticides, but it adds an additional spiritual element. It is common to see planting of vines timed with the phases of the moon and burying of crystals in the fields. With all of this additional care, the wines are undeniably special and hold a great deal of respect from those who enjoy them for the hard work that they require.
In vino veritas - La biodynamie expliquée à Darwin
« La Renaissance des Appellations » se tiendra le 17 juin en marge de Vinexpo, avec dégustations, projections et conférence de Nicolas Joly, le plus ardent défenseur de la biodynamie en France.

La Renaissance des Appellations, or the Return to Terroir organization was founded in 1991 by Nicolas Joly. The group is highly selective, and only the most conscientious, quality minded wine estates are admitted.
For the first time since 2009, "Return to Terroir" will return to New York City for a walk-around tasting on Monday, February 27, 2012 from 11:00 am - 5:00pm at The Altman Building (135 West 18th Street New York, NY). More than 70 vignerons will be featured, 8 of which are members of the Domaine Select Wine Estates portfolio. Attendance is free to the Press & Trade.
Nicolas Joly is number 45 on Decanter's 2011 Power List. He grows wine in the Loire Valley in France and is one of the pioneers and most outspoken proponents of biodynamic wine. Nicolas has authored several books on the subject and founded the group Return to Terroir which promotes vineyards that follow biodynamic farming practices.
