I met Nicolas Roye (Chuya's English VA) yesterday and let me tell you...it was an experience! No one else was in his line so I got to really talk to him. (Plus when I told him I wanted "you fucked up, detective agency!" as the quote with his autograph, he then recited the whole scene to me in Chuya's voice and I just.....). Anyway we talked about the way his life almost went, the path life pulled me in, the people we were and are now......and then I noticed a very pretty wood like carving portrait for sale on his table and asked him to sign that too. He said he had just commissioned an artist the day before to make them (the artist had made a Toji one for him to sign and Nicolas liked it so much he asked him to make Chuya in the same style) and I was the very first person to get one and get it signed. So he wrote #1 on it as well. The person helping at the booth told me I should get it authenticated at the authentication booth because it's so special...so I did! It was a very special day for me and I have a lump in my throat just thinking about it (and probably always will).

HOLY MARIA, Bakarina gets an English Dub!

Welp, surprise of all surprises, Bakarina’s getting an English dub after all! We all thought the IRL-Crisis would delay any dub for a while, but it looks like we’re getting started, at least for now.

So without further ado, here comes the English cast:

Jeannie Tirado (Visha on Youjo Senki, Carole on Carole and Tuesday) as Catarina Claes

Griffin Burns (Akira on Devilman Crybaby, Jintan on Anohana) as Prince Geordo

Bryce Papenbrook (Kirito on Sword Art Online, Chat Noir on Miraculous Ladybug) as Prince Alan

Griffin Puatu (Louis on Beastars, Hop on Pokemon: Twilight Wings) as Keith Claes

Nicolas Roye (Chuuya Nakahara on Bungo Stray Dogs, Hatz on Tower of God) as Nicol Ascart

Melissa Fahn (Ed on Cowboy Bebop, Rider on Fate/Stay Night) as Maria Campbell

Colleen O’Shaughnessy (Sora on Digimon Adventure, Jazz from Danny Phantom) as Mary Hunt

Kira Buckland (Beatrice on Re:Zero, 2B from Nier: Automata) as Sophia Ascart

First impressions are in- this is a very diverse cast! Right away I can say that Melissa Fahn and Colleen O’Shaughnessy are a big surprise. They’re both seasoned performers with a lot of years of experience, so they’ll both do extremely well. Kira’s also a great choice, as her range is really wide, and her cutesy voice is really really cute.

As for Jeannie, I’ve heard her work before, but this role is gonna be the clincher for her. Not only is she doing Bakarina, both as a young girl and all grown up, but also all the inner Bakarinas AND her past self. That’s a lot of variations she has to do. I wish her the best of luck! Also to have fun, because this character is probably the funnest character to perform, ever.

As for the boys, I was very surprised by Bryce Papenbrook’s casting. Most of his roles are young guys with a higher pitch, so I have no idea if he can do a deeper-sounding voice. I have not actually heard of the other guys before. Heard a clip of Griffin P. performing Louis, and he sounds pretty dramatic, but everyone else is a mystery...

No one else has been announced, including the younger versions of the boys, but so far this looks to be a fun cast! The dub premieres tomorrow, May 16th, though no word if the IRL-Crisis will affect future episode releases. Let’s keep our fingers crossed it doesn’t!
