Niedwald is a real cutie. It is kind of hidden, so there are just view people around, especially Monday to Friday it’s a very calm place… All right in there for contemplating! It’s just the birds singing around, fresh air, with a light taste of garlic in it for the green garlic, growing there until the end of May. And the reason for writing all this stuff again is that I were there once again. I can’t stop admiring this place!

One of those sunny days I went around Frankfurt Niedwald by bike. What you can see here once was part of River Nidda. Nowadays it’s a lakelike thing. Around here you can calm down. Niedwald is still full of green garlic, what is the reason for the area smelling like a garlic field every springtime… Niedwald itself is the all that’s left from a far bigger forest, reaching once from Vogelsberg to Frankfurt Höchst…

Niedwald. Small forest in Frankfurt Nied. These days the trees are not really green, they just try to start getting alive, within days everything will be green, but not now... But: the ground is full of wild garlic! Year for year I'm reminded here on spring and early summer by this fine smell of wild garlic and a massive number of white blossoms on the ground. I first found this out in '85, thirty years ago. I lived over there in Sossenheim and worked in a hospital in Niederrad. Mostly I went by bike, Niedwald was part of it. Until today I love this smell and this small enclave is still one of my favourite places for it's beauty, for it is a silent place and for it's special place in my memory. As memories are really part of ourselves, well, here is a part of me, kind of a special selfie ;^)
