This is Nigel the agel from Halo askew. His halo doesn’t sit straight on his head, hence the name.
Nigel felt a little bad as the door swung shut behind him. This Scott seemed like a nice guy, and he seemed like he genuinely cared.
But after what he’d seen today, he couldn’t get himself to trust anyone from Pyramid. He didn’t know what to think anymore. He needed time to collect his thoughts. First of all he had to clean and bind the cut on his cheek.
He took the stairs – he couldn’t stand the thought of entering another elevator this day – up to the sixth floor and sought out the keys for his apartment as he walked down the dimly lit, and slightly foul smelling corridor.
With a weary sigh he pushed the door closed behind him and locked the door.
“Patrick?” he asked, still facing the door. “Patrick?”
No answer. He was alone. Good. He went into the bathroom, and searched out the firs aid kit. Then, looking at his ghastly reflection in the mirror, he began the task of patching up the wound.
It was just after he’d received this that he’d quit.
Brisbon had, of course been furious with him after returning more than an hour after she’d sent him off for coffee. She didn’t seem to care that she was holding a scalpel, as she’d swept her hand across his face with ferocious speed.
The pain and general shock of it all was what had caused Nigel to quit his job.
He wondered what to do about it now. Maybe he should take Scott’s advice and report the incident. But what of what he’d seen in that secret basement? The grotesque image was still clear in his mind whenever he closed his eyes. And Noah told him they’d been testing it on people. Had it hit the streets yet? He had to find out.
He was just about to place the last bandage across his cut when he heard the door out in the hallway open. He knew it was just his flatmate, but the sound made him jump nonetheless.
“Nigel?” he could hear him call. “You home already?”
This was the first time Nigel hadn’t worked late, instead come straight home after hours.
