Whoever decided to make us do test calls are actual trash humans.
Do you know what’s not fun?
Calling a different hotel under our branch and acting like I’m making a reservation and marking them on it.
Having to make up reasons and excuses.
We have to ask ”may I ask what brings you to the area?”
Do you know how many people tell me it’s not of my business? At least once a shift.
But I have to make up some reason why... mine consist of;
“I’m staying for a family reunion”
“dads birthday”
“anniversary with the boyfriend”
Them: “would you like to make the reservation?”
Me: “uhhh I’ll have to check with the people I’m going with before” fucking awkward.
Then trying to get off the phone with them saying shit like “oh, I’m just going to call a few other hotels in the area, I might call back”
And the horrible feeling of giving them a low mark because they didn’t ask if I was a member.
It’s complete shit.
Every call I make they are super nice and understanding. But oh no! If they don’t say 2 things their mark goes from 16/16 to 9/16.
I hate it.
I’ve never gotten a complaint about my phone etiquette from a guest nor has anyone I’ve talked to from other hotels under our branch and from my work. (They could be lying butttt...)
So why?
Oh yeah!
To make sure we don’t feel too good about ourselves... I almost forgot.
Because on top of being over worked, under paid and being shit on by guests CONSTANTLY we can’t feel good about any aspect of this job. A co-worker got a 8/16 and felt so down about herself. I told her they still wrote she was really nice and spoke clearly.
Honestly, test calls have everyone on edge.
Don’t ever work in a hotel. It’s an almost permanent state of being so done, the bullshit just slides off you.
I might be the only one who feels this angry over something so stupid, but oh well.
Signed,
a super angry, overworked night auditor.
