Not to get controversial but

what the fuck is up with “closed” nightfury species’???

Like closed species that’re just hybrids/an already-existing species with random other traits from various other animals that’re to make money are awful already

But people have taken nightfuries and been like “Omg it has a shark tail: closed species” or “no more wings and call it cave-dwelling: closed species”

Like??? No??? I can put a shark fin on my nightfury oc and it wont be a closed species. If you want to make a closed species for HTTYD or another fandom, go apeshit with an actually original design??? HTTYD has such a wide plethora of design traits in the canon series, why are yall being so lazy?

Good Closed Species Traits:

Originality, cool designs, lore, not an absurd amount of rules, logical rules that arent things like “give it stripes and you’re blacklisted”, priced like a regular character (maybe up to $25 more expensive than normal for being closed, but any more is pushing it)

Thin-Ice Closed Species Traits:

Using an overly-common animal as a base, minor lore, things like “legendary, mythical, godly” traits, a bunch of rules, rules that can be followed but shouldn’t really be there, overpriced

Bad Closed Species Traits:

Existing animal with a random extra trait, no lore, “legendary, mythical, godly” traits that’re just various horn/ear/tail shapes, an extensive amount of rules, rules that’re things like “never question me about my species” or “i have rights to every character because it’s my species”, flat-prices/autobuys are insanely expensive

It’s not as cut-and-dry as this, but those are just examples. If you want more of an explanation, feel free to ask, but I’m not online much here anymore.
