Night in the Museum - curated by Ryan Gander

Night in the Museum was a really exciting exhibition. I have never been to an exhibition like it where the work is paired up and interacts with the other. Each pair had a blue feature and the other a figurative work based on the human form. The gaze of the figure is fixed upon the blue piece and draws interest.

This video, which really captured my attention, was Ryan Gander talking about his experience curating the show. I feel like he is really down to earth and able to help everyone understand what his thought process was.

I really enjoyed how the pairings used the space and went against the norm.

Night in the Museum: Ryan Gander

On Friday 16th December I took a trip to the Night in the Museum exhibition at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. This exhibition which is curated by Ryan Gander takes work from many different modern and contemporary British artists, as part of the celebrations for the Arts Council Collection’s 70th anniversary.

For the exhibition Gander has selected work that appear to be involved in the act of looking. He also features the colour blue in the work that he has chosen. The colour for him represents the abstract ideas often found in modern and contemporary art.
