Commission for @nightjarring of his character, Zeta! This is probably one of my best works yet, combining new and old skills and tricks to create something I'm really proud of.
The initial composition came pretty naturally, with Zeta's humanoid body hanging below the lizard one, but adding the curtains and bed as framing elements helped it come together. Then we decided on the watercolor+pencils rendering style and I kinda went wild there? Shading isn't easy with this style, persay, but it is really intuitive to me, and I had a good time blending colors together. I then felt the image needed a background, and experimented with a solid floor and wall before deciding on something vaguer. I think this really added to the dreamlike and abstract energy to the piece I started out with. Finally, I went through a couple frame iterations to really tie it all together, and it I think it really did come together!!
I definitely learned some things in the process of making this, how to use CSP Rulers, for one, and how to use the selection tool to maintain clean borders between coloring areas with the ever-messy watercolor brushes. I also got a little better at blending and using the rough watercolor brush in CSP!
Once again, thank you @nightjarring for this commission, I had a real good time making it!
