Light In The Sky
The night air was crisp in Duskwood. In the distance, feral worgen could be heard howling at the moon in sky, high above the trees’ canopy. Braghaman smiled as he began walking on the path from the gryphon master, his boots crunching on the gravel on the ground. Even though it had been warm in Stormwind, the air here in Darkshire was cooler. Not quite the crisp weather that would come in a few more weeks, but still more comfortable than in the capital.
The paladin shifted his pack on his shoulder and made his way towards his home. Neighbors from the village nodded to him as he passed and Bragh returned the gesture. Finally, he found himself at the path that led from the road to his home and he stepped past the bushes planted beside. Before him was the two story house that he had bought so many years ago and more recently had remodeled.
Without warning, there was a muffled explosion. Braghaman froze in front of his house and stared into the windows, seeing little bursts of lights. Before he could move, the front door flew open and Niviene was standing there. She looked at the paladin, her blue dress torn along the hem and on one sleeve.
“Bragh,” she said softly, the paladin reading her lips more than hearing her voice. Then there was a blinding flash of light as a beam struck the house from the sky, igniting the structure into a fireball. Bragh watched as a wave of flame engulfed the priestess.
“NIV!”
Braghaman jerked and his arms flailed around him. He somehow found his war hammer leaning against the wall next to him and his hand reflexively closed around it. Bragh started looking around at unfamiliar surroundings as two pairs of hands pushed at his shoulders and forced him back into the bed.
“Its okay, Commander Larethian. It was just a dream.”
Braghaman looked at the cleric standing over him, the cleric’s hands holding him firmly down. Bragh looked from one side to the next, his mind finally recognizing the medic station. It took several moments for him to finally slow down his heartbeat and to relax on the mattress beneath him.
“Just a nightmare, commander. Everything is okay.”
Bragh simply nodded, letting out a heavy breath and loosening his grip on his hammer. The weapon slid back against the wall as he reluctantly let it go.
“Just a dream,” he repeated, with a shudder. “Just a dream.”
