Alexander Kowalsi (DE) - NightVision Techno PODCAST 73 pt.3 3RD ANNIVERSARY! This set was recorded at Damage Music Label Night @ Suicide Circus, Berlin 03.10.2014! Bio: Alexander Kowalski is a German techno producer who elegantly fuses elements from classic Detroit and historical Berlin techno. His affection for sophisticated bass lines, deep beats and challenging arrangements breathes new life into techno. He knows perfectly how to program his tracks to sound straight, deep, housy, dubby or funky - and this versatility is one of the reasons for his reputation with both ravers and underground-oriented techno nerds. Alexander Kowalski has come a long way. A techno producer and live performer since 1997, he has racked up an impressive volume of work including four solo albums, countless singles and remixes. It all began in the early 90's in Berlin as Kowalski caught wind of the first techno releases that found their way over from Detroit and New York. Soon he was producing his own material and making his debut live appearances at Berlin's premier techno club Tresor. It was here that he got in touch with Pacou, resulting in his first releases on the Tresor label under the pseudonym DisX3. Around that time, he also teamed up with Stassy of Sender Berlin in a collaboration called Double X. Not long after, his first full-length release "Echoes" appeared on Kanzleramt (2001). But his big breakthrough came with the release of his follow-up album "Progress" in 2002. In the same year he also scored a hit with "Hot Spot" featuring Raz Ohara. Evolving and honing his production skills with every release, Kowalski was soon getting enormous acclaim for his innovative sound, which combined technical prowess and precision with a strong sense of emotion. After his third album "Response" in 2003, he shifted his focus to performing live across the globe and providing remixes for such artists as Agoria, Dave Gahan, Funk D'Void, Sascha Funke and Paul Kalkbrenner. In the meantime Kowalski decided to indulge his passion for vocals, which he began to use more and more in his music. His wistful, lyrical track "Lock Me Up" (with Turner) clearly showed the potential he had unlocked with this approach, and in 2006 he returned with the album "Changes" on the Different label, showcasing his new musical focus. Boldly crossing genres, he has produced songs featuring a wide range of vocalists including Khan ("House of Hell"), Fritz Kalkbrenner & Barca Baxant. Kowalski's action-packed live sets are always powerfully intense. Having played in cities all over the world, he is a pro performer behind his gear who knows how to rock out the dancefloor with bass-driven techno, deep harmonies and straight beats, pulling out all the stops with his club anthem "Speaker Attack". His live skills as well as his exceptional discography have earned him a place as a favourite among critics who, over the years, have awarded him the titles of best producer, best live act and two-time nominee for the German dance award. 2009 he started his own Label "Damage Music Berlin" featuring Tracks & Remix by himself, Extrawelt, Dirty Doering & Vince Watson... A.Paul (POR) - NightVision Techno PODCAST 73 pt.5 3RD ANNIVERSARY! Bio: A.Paul was born in Lisbon, Portugal in November 1971, and his career started in 1986, although his first contact with music was made at a very early stage, mainly through the hands of his older sister that would regularly listen to disco, funk, and electro sounds in the 70′s. From a music passionate mind, to a national celebrity, A.Paul is today one of the key players of the electronic music scene on a worldwide scale, both as a DJ and as a Producer. His taste, technique and originality made him earn the respect from his peers and most of all the love and devotion from his fans. After the first years of musical discovery, his talent start to blossom when he was 13, despite living in a country where only a small percentage of people would listen to dance music, he always knew that these infectious rhythms would be on his path. After buying his first decks and mixer, including a couple of years of bedroom practice, he organized a few parties himself and later acquired his first residencies in clubs, through the hand of J.Daniel, who was one of the most respected Portuguese DJs in the 90′s. He was the owner of Question of Time Records, a vanguard record shop and record label, where A.Paul would later release his first record “Juice” a remarkable masterpiece that was played by many top DJs worldwide and licensed to various labels and compilations. He was also invited to be part of the Climacz project, the first after-hours club in Portugal, which was one of the first milestones of his career. The amazing spirit this venue brought to the Portuguese scene is still remembered with great joy and nostalgia by A.Paul himself. At some point he felt the need to move on and search for new challenges. In 1996, he became part of the Illegal Records project as a techno import manager, was invited to be resident of the best club at that time Kremlin, and later founded his first labels, Squeeze Records and Onh.Cet, which were two relevant projects that helped define and polish his sound. By then he was also already playing quite a lot as freelancer, in a growing market. Portugal was at its peak, in terms of electronic music popularity and A.Paul was playing at one point every weekend on different parts of the country. It was inevitable that he would decide to stick to this option for his career, as opposed to be resident in a club, where he would be more limited in terms of music taste. In 1997 he joins the X-Club, the most important DJ Agency and party organizer in Portugal. All the top cats were signed to X-Club, and so was A.Paul, first as a supporting artist, and later part of the agency’s top artists too. This period was very important for A.Paul, and his growth was remarkable, because he had the chance to meet and play with all the major techno and house artists in the world. Other projects developed by A.Paul at that time include sound engineering, journalism and also graphic and web design, activities that would become also important on his next projects. A.Paul was voted best Portuguese techno DJ in 2000, 2001, and 2002 by the readers of Dance Club, the main electronic music media vehicle in Portugal. A.Paul has never stopped investing and supporting the electronic music community particularly in techno. This is when A.Paul decides to start exploring the international market, due to the changes in the Portuguese scene.1994 to 2000 was monumental time after suffering from the huge decline in quality and quantity of events and musical culture. From the “Paradise Called Portugal” coined years before by international media, Portugal was now a place with a stagnated scene, and techno was probably the first genre to suffer. It was time for change, this crisis lead him to invest his time in a music production career, that was quiet for a few years due to the higher demand for DJ previously. In 2001 he opened Genesis record shop. Later in 2007 A.Paul was co-owner of MPC Vinyl Distribution, with his long-time friends Cisco Ferreira (The Advent) and Michaelangelo, where he also released on his other sub -labels The Light, Parallel 125, Dirty Ego, LK and Xtractz. In In 2012 A.Paul’s most renowned & most successful project to date is Naked Lunch Records which was created back in 2005 really began to really take mold into one of the driving forces in the techno scene. Naked Lunch Podcast, a weekly podcast, which is a careful balance of top quality underground DJs and the game changers in the techno scene. Fast forward to 2013, this marked a new monumental moment in A.Paul’s career as a promoter, by the end of the year he had 5 success events under his belt! With the success of the highly acclaimed Naked Lunch Nights in Portugal, its natural step would be to take his events international for 2014, alongside the grand opening of the much anticipated Naked Lunch Agency, the missing puzzle piece to complete his techno vision & one day his legacy. A.Paul has released over 100 vinyl records, several mixed CD compilations released in amazing labels like; Kombination Research, Synewave, Planet Rhyhtm, Italo Business, Pure Sonik, Theory, Mastertraxx, Beat Disaster, Yin Yang, Impact Mechanics, and has remixed artists such as The Advent, Ben Sims, Eric Sneo, Angel Alanis, Damon Wild, DJ T-1000, Virgil Enzinger, Robert Armani, Dave The Drummer, Dj Preach, Mike Humphries, Spiros Kaloumenos, Torsten Kanzler, Bas Mooy, Housemaster Boyz and many more. Besides his sound of hard, funky, deep bass lines he is renowned for, he has also been known productions in tech- house, minimal and experimental sounds, under several aliases like Loudon Kleer, Luther Miek, Beat Therapy and LK. and last but not least, he is also known for his co-productions with artists like The Advent, Industrialyzer, Michaelangelo, DJ Slot among others. Tom Hades (BEL) - NightVision Techno PODCAST 73 pt.2 3RD ANNIVERSARY! Bio: Tom Hades started to discover and experiment with electronic music when listening to DAF, Kraftwerk, Front 242, ... At the age of 15, he bought his first keyboard, the famous Casio CZ-101 and transformed his game-computer, Amiga 500, into his first DAW. Quickly he got experienced with MIDI-integration and sampling functions, which gave him even more urge for buying/selling new material as addition to his current setup. During the same period, his old schoolfriend, RedHead, was co-producing with Marco Bailey. He got in contact with Marco too which led them in 2000 to their first co-release. And this was the start of a big period of releases, included the anthem of "I Love Techno" in 2001. Have a look at the discography for the complete overview ... In the same year as I Love Techno, Tom started to do live performances. He got more & more experienced and started to play all over the world. His live performance was fully appreciated in countries like Spain, Colombia, Brazil, France, Poland, Sweden, Mexico, Japan, Austria, Italy, Norway, Ireland, ... and on many known festivals like Nature One, I Love Techno, City Parade, ... In the first period of 2002, Tom also produced his first solo release. In the next 3-4 years he continued to produce tracks on his own as well as his co-production with Marco on respected labels like MB Elektronics, Pornographic Recordings, Rhythm Convert, Northwest Dynamics, Invasion, Fine Audio, Patterns, Lupp, ... In 2004, they decided it was time to take the next step, start a label. And so Rhythm Convert was born. Initially, the purpose of the label was to give an opportunity to new talents to release their stuff. Guys like Axel Karakasis, Spiros Kaloumenos, Veztax, ... did a very good job to show the people what is was all about. Nowadays, the label is more aimed to produce electro-techno tracks and less oriented towards loopy techno sounds. End 2004, they released their full album, Rude Boy, caused a stirr all over the world. The best proof was their live performance during Nature One @ Pydna were they literally "blew the place to kingdom come" ! His current releases on labels like MB Elektronics & Rhythm Convert are oriented in the same way his musical taste changes, more melodic and even sometimes more dramatic music with flavors of techno, minimal, tekhouse and electro. Nowadays, Tom is busy at concentrating in his next step, to develop his "dj-career". In the near future, you can expect dj-sets with dedication and filled with energy, as known from his live-sets, to give his fans the pleasure of clubbing ! But as every self-respected artist, he will never forget his roots, so live-sets will still be part of his main occupation !
