Note2: Inspired from Narcbf & Lavendergalactic post!
Oh, do IX's shadows have something to do with the shadows in Plato's allegory of the cave? The allegory is used by gnosticism, and while genshin and star rail have a general gnosticism vibe, the Nihility does emphasize it a bit with some pathstriders believing the universe a dream, and IX sitting in front of the great light beyond and casting the universe in shadows
Worldbuilding question: do you think there would be some Nihility users hide they are Nihility users by saying "I follow [base path not Nihility]"? Since I could see them be like "why the fuck would I telegram my tragic backstory to bunch of strangers that would put me in danger". Especially on how badly they may react if some foreign stranger (like Caelus) who immediately could tell the full extent of their path, when they worked so hard to hide it from public knowledge
It's certainly a possibility. I don't believe that the ability to hide would work very well unless they're someone like Pela or Guinaifen simply because at some point or other, the truth will come out. On the other hand, I do think it's possible to be ignorant of one's true path - See Kafka asking Caelus about if she's really so negative when he pegs her as a Nihilist.
Additionally, using Kafka as an example, her backstory isn't exactly tragic, at least not to her, and that should inform her particular worldview. Nihility is a path you can essentially fall into, in IIS, and sometimes it's not entirely done on purpose.
