I've already expressed this a while back but I love how your blog is like perfectly curated. It's like an awesome museum. Especially with the tag system. So idk yeah walks away briskly and slips on a skateboard into a sewer
ah thank you! *throws you a rope* the tagging function is still the main reason i like tumblr so much *pulling you up* cos i love categories, convoluted systems, and sorting things *pulling you up* AND museums. blogs are museums of a person really i want to walk around in one *you've reached the top now but i let go of the rope, produce a second skateboard from behind my back and hit you over the head with it knocking you back into the sewer*
frank what are your favorite metal subgenres
My favorite metal subgenres, as in my current favorite metal bands, are
1. Sludge ("post-metal")
2. "prog rock with hard rock influence," which is a very broad category, and in that sense "prog metal" because of bands like Camel and Yes and Rush that are clearly prog metal but still rock-y enough that you can say "rock" and people will know what you mean
3. Extremely experimental post-metal, which tends to be "shitty music for music's sake" but also "beautiful and mind-bending, but so pretentious it feels like you're trying to impress everyone with your brilliance"
4. Extremely extreme metal, which may or may not include a lot of distortion and may or may not be intentionally distorted because the singer wants it to sound distorted (as with the Swedish black metal of, e.g., Dark Tranquility)
5. Death/doom metal (I have a soft spot for bands like Carpathian Forest)
(This list is very approximate, and I try not to include bands that are very popular but not my favorites. For example I really like King Crimson even though a lot of the subgenre of "prog rock with hard rock influence" is so famous that it's considered a cliché in the genre and a lot of these bands are considered to not deserve their popularity. But I wouldn't be able to put them in the top 10)
I don't know much about "doom metal." I've only really listened to a couple bands like Death (and, at their extreme end, Burzum and Candlemass)
you love the ocean.
you know what yeah that really sums a lot of me up actually
when you see a post that you know is going to gain traction and you absolutely fucking hate it already just seeing it once it really makes this website such an experience
1 10 and 100
1. colour in your cheeks by the mountain goats
10. never let me down again by depeche mode
100. breezeblocks by alt-j

the kid i babysit has permanently destroyed my youtube recommendations there's a whole autogenerated fever dream kids content underbelly of that stuff
whats like the most *interesting* music you have? like music that just has a lot going on, many instruments or interesting rhythmic stuff. sorry if this is like weirdly specific lol
No its fine!!
Hmm. Maybe frank zappa or king crimson, like jazz rock kinda stuff. It just feels like theres a lot going on and its all like. It doesnt necessarily all blend together like symphonic stuff like the moody blues or whatever, its more like. Instead of feeling like blurred together and smooth its more like, random and crazy and wacky ya know? Yeah. Like even if there isnt a lot going on it just feels like there is. Like indoor games. Theres not actually that many instruments playing i dont think, but its like. Wacky. Idk does that make sense?
