Hey so I've done sprinting my Sophomore and junior year. This fall I decided to do cross country and am having some trouble adjusting to the higher mileage. Any tips to adjusting to the longer distances?
make sure you don't increase your mileage too quickly or jump into really high mileage! my advice would be to start SLOW and don't increase your mileage by more than 10% per week. maybe don't even run every day. maybe run 3-5 times a week. make sure you take very good care of yourself: stretch, roll, ice. just listen to your body and eventually you'll adjust! :) i know this isn't very detailed, but i've seen nina (nine-run-run) give some really solid advice on how to increase mileage without injury. maybe if you check out her answered questions it'll help you out more. good luck!!
Eleven Questions
Erin tagged me in a thing!
RULES: Rule 1: Always post the rules Rule 2: Answer the questions the person who tagged you asked, and write 11 new ones Rule 3: Tag 11 people and link them to the post Rule 4: Actually tell them you tagged them.
Questions:
1.) If you could visit any era, and if causation wasn’t an issue, what era would it be and why?
I think I would really love to visit the 50’s or the 60’s, because it was just such an innovative time in art and culture. Maybe I could sneak into the background of a Godard film… hmm…
2.) What is at least one thing you’re determined to do/experience before you die?
Fall head-over-heels in love with someone, even if it only lasted for a short while.
3.) If you could own one item from any museum, what would it be?
When I was at the Met last week I revisited one of my grandmother’s favorite pieces, Springtime by Pierre August Cot, and I would just love to have it so I could stare at it all day.
4.) Is there some memory, place, or object that is inextricably connected with your childhood?
Whenever I think of my childhood my mind wanders back to my summer home in Long Island, where I spent far too many days just lying in the grass watching clouds.
5.) If you could ask your favorite author/director/creator one thing what would it be?
The answer is obvious to anyone who’s spoken to me for more than five minutes, but I would definitely ask Wes Anderson what inspires him.
6.) If you had to burn all of your books except five, which five would you choose?
Urgh this is the worst question! I don’t want to burn any of my books! I think I would hang on to The Secret History, Lolita, Atonement, The Historian, and… my childhood copy of The Teddy Bear Habit.
7.) Are you more right brained or left brained?
Right brained.
8.) Tell about a time you went on an unintentional adventure
One day last summer, my friend Olivia met up for breakfast pretty early in the morning. When we finished, we realized we still had the entire day ahead of us. We ended up wandering around for a couple of hours, got slurpees, walked across the Williamsburg Bridge and spent the day on the other side of the river, all spontaneously.
9.) What is a favorite item in your wardrobe?
My green and black kilt. I’m so sad that its too hot to wear it anymore :(
10.) Have you ever had a reoccurring dream, or one that is particularly vivid in your memory?
I have never had a recurring dream! I don’t tend to remember my dreams for very long either.
11.) A pretty classic question but one I’m always interested in hearing the answer to- if you could lose either your sight or your hearing which would you choose to lose and why?
I think I would rather lose my hearing. So much of what makes me feel fulfilled has to do with creating and appreciating visual objects, and to lose that faculty would be like losing a part of myself.
