Close-ups of the Nine Dragon Screen you glimpsed in yesterday’s post. 🐉 Notice the missing piece on this white dragon? The story goes that during installation a craftsman accidentally broke the tile, but since that tile was unique, there was no replacement tile. As a last resort, he crafted one out of wood & painted it to look like the original glazed tile & it passed inspection! Over time, that piece has fallen away. . . Some other facts: there are 9 dragons bc 9 is an auspicious number. These dragons all have 5 claws, which is significant in that only the Emperor could use the 5-clawed dragon. . . . Other than the 1st & last slides, I’ve organized the dragons in order. Enjoy because seeing this screen cost me extra admission! 😄 . . . . #wanderlustwednesday #theforbiddencity #beijing #ninedragonscreen #wanderlust #architecture #art #travelgram #mingdynasty #qingdynasty #vscotravel #historicsite #worldheritagesite #instatravel #historynerd #seetheworld #liveincolor #postcardsfromtheworld #visitChina #exploreChina #China #girlontheroam #latergram (at Forbidden City, Beijing) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrlisYdHnVn/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=8a2xs4rsvvg1
