#ninjago magic

Was thinking the other night about magic in Ninjago, like it’s not just the elemental powers, there is other magic; magicians, sorcerers and stuff, those are a thing

We’ve got Clouse, and Vangelis (I don’t think there’s anyone else really, if there is feel free to remind me)

Anyway, it just got me thinking…and it’s been rotating in the back of my head…

There’s also the off-hand-ish comment Sensei Garmadon makes in season 4 when they’re on the boat going to Chen’s island and he says something about the elemental masters previously being guardians of the FSM…and that also got me thinking…

And like, we really only see the use of dark magic in the show (though if there’s dark magic there’s probably good magic too; you’ve got all of Mystake’s weird teas)

But, these two idea sort of came together in my head and I’m like “ancient, long ago war between FSM and dark sorcerers where the elemental masters had to help the FSM and protect him?? Maybe even help protect his sons???”

I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but that sounds really cool

Headcannon time!!

Alrighty so basically- a lil while back i found myself thinking about the Serpentine and their magic system. As we know Aspheera was a serpentine witch. How? Well she does tell Wu that she was training to be a sorceress, something she says extremely casually tOo-

With that in mind, as well as the lack of notable female serpentine characters in the show, I have made a head cannon:

EVERY female serpentine is born with some form of magic.

Of course this magic is hereditary so family members have similar powers. But EVERY female has this magical potential, even if it lies dormant all their lives. I like to think that since magic is a rare thing in the serpentine tribes, being as the ratio of males to females is VERY low, female serpentine are rarely used in battle, and are instead left to defend the camps (cuz it also made zero sense for the Serpentine to leave their women and children completely unguarded)

As for the magic itself, I also feel there are certain factors that set it apart from elemental power. For example, just like how the ninja have follow the seven virtues to be good heroes, the witches of the serpentine tribes have to follow these as well. If they don't, then their power can become unstable, fueled by selfish and dangerous emotion...Slowly corrupting the user until they go mad.

Soooo... ye! Witches! My main oc Phyllis for example (you can find her reference sheet here ) is a powerful necromancer and was able to tune into her magic at a young age. However, she deals with some heavy corruption due to early trauma and a loathing hate towards the elementals of the human world. (ESPECIALLY the ninja- but I'll explain that in a later post)
