That looks so cool! What is it?
There's a chicken meat bun, a taro bun and a sweet bean paste hedgehog bun.
Sorry, I misread your post and thought it was an in-person class, and I didn't realize until after I sent you an ask. Is there any way to get a friend to sign up with you, or would that not work/solve anything?
aw its alright bby i didnt really explain my situation all that well either
i wish i could do that but it took a lot of work for my counselor to get me into this class in the first place, considering we dont really dabble in online classes very often. even though there wont be any girls in the actual class with me, my friend has a free hour the same time i'm taking the class so we can sit and moan about dumb boys together :)
Sam Wilson
Let it be known that I don't know Sam Wilson nearly as well as the other characters, but I would like to, so comic suggestions would be cool.
How I feel about this character:
Sam Wilson!! Sam Wilson is really, really important to me. First of all, he’s a person of color and a major character! There’s, like, only a couple in the entirety of the MCU. Seriously, Marvel, get your butts on that, I want to see David Alleyne and Miss America Chavez and Luke Cage and Angela Del Toro and just all of the characters, all of them (there are many many more, but I’m most familiar with these few). I want my dad to be so uncomfortable with the next Marvel movie because it’s just chock full of people of color and queer folk. Do it, Marvel.
That rant aside, that’s not the only reason Sam Wilson is important. In both the comics and the MCU he’s the one that helps everyone keep a pretty level head. He offers shelter, advice and a shoulder to cry on. He’s super kind and very wise, but very intelligent and clever too (these are different things, I swear). I also really like how this character handles his problems. He’s wise, so he knows he has them and he knows he can’t always handle them alone. For example, when he lost Riley and came home, he went to meetings with other veterans to help him cope. You can see his kindness when he then he turns around and works on helping others cope. This is super important because Sam didn’t let his emotions and resentment bottle up, he went and got help and then he used his experiences to help others. Not only does he know when he has problems, he can see when others do too. He hooks on to Steve having troubles almost immediately and offers advice and then an invitation to come to one of the meetings, but he also disguises it in such a way that it doesn’t hit Steve’s ego. He’s tactful, encouraging and he understands the importance of coping healthily.
I think that’s why Sam’s really so important, at least in the MCU, but also in the comics. He shows these characters that drowning in your pain or bottling it up is not the way to go. He encourages everyone to deal with it in ways that are healthy. That’s really encouraging, in a universe full of characters bottling up their pain and using it to fuel their fighting, it’s nice to see a character that doesn’t and doesn’t find it shameful or weak to go get help.
All the people I ship romantically with this character:
Everyone…? Everyone needs a boyfriend like Sam Wilson. Joking aside (only I’m not joking, I’m really not), it’s kinda hard to choose because he hasn’t interacted with many characters in the MCU and I’ve only read a few comics with him and the cartoons portray him as somehow younger than everyone else and it's just really weird… Natasha Romanoff, Steve Rogers, Maria Hill (maybe…?)
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
I haven't seen them interact yet, but Clint Barton and Sam Wilson, bird bros 5 ever.
My unpopular opinion about this character:
I don’t think I have one… maybe I do… He’s definitely going to make a better Cap than Bucky. No offense to Bucky, but Sam seems to have better leadership skills.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
So I was reading the comics where Steve finds out Bucky is the Winter Soldier and he’s disappeared off somewhere and Sam goes to look for him and he opens with a line like “I had to talk to all the pigeons in New York to find you,” and I thought he was joking, but apparently he wasn’t.
That whole intro was basically to introduce the fact that Sam Wilson can apparently talk to birds and see through the eyes of birds and I would like that to be addressed in the freaking MCU, right now please.
Bucky Barnes
This was actually really hard to write and I’m worried people are going to think I have him all wrong in my head, but goodness gracious I love him. Also spoilers for Captain America: Winter Soldier, obviously.
How I feel about this character:
I LOVE him. I really wish I could put into words exactly why, but I’m going to go ahead and say it’s his personality. It is also definitely the arm. I love his arm. It’s so neat.
I guess I like his personality because I can personally relate to it and he’s dynamic to me. He’s intelligent and charismatic, but I also see a lot of loyalty in him. He could have innumerable friends, but he chooses a couple and he sticks with them no matter what. I can relate to that in a big way. The biggest thing I see and relate to in him is his ‘need to be needed’, which is really apparent in his relationship with Steve, both pre and post serum. Steve was tiny, sickly and unpopular. I’m sure Bucky became friends with Steve because he does genuinely seem kind, but also Steve needed him and Bucky liked that feeling. You can also see a bit of uncertainty in him when Steve got the serum because then Steve was rescuing him. Steve didn’t need him anymore, and not only did that hit his ego pretty hard (which is also another thing I noticed, he has a pretty big ego), it probably also scared him because he needed Steve to need him. After his fall, you see the more intelligent and calculating side of Bucky, you see his logic, quick thinking and determination. He works like a well-oiled machine and I’d imagine not all of that is Hydra programming, there’s just less getting in the way in terms of morals. You also see a lot of stubbornness, anger and fear in him and a lot more of his ego. When Natasha manages to one up him in their fight, he doesn’t tactically act, he gets mad and goes after her, rather than before the fall when the bully was beating Steve up at the beginning, Bucky merely dispatches him. When Pierce says to wipe him, he is horrified and shows it unabashedly, rather than before the fall, when Bucky is scared to go to war, he hides it and even puts on a show of pride in front of Steve. You also see that need to be needed again in the way Alexander Pierce knows how to motivate him before his next mission. He says that key word, he says that Hydra needs him, that the world needs him.
I guess I really like how human he is. Especially with his Winter Soldier side, he is far from an emotionless puppet or a machine, if anything, his emotions are more raw. He may have worked efficiently, but not once in that entire movie did I see him blank, there was always something going on in that head, whether it was determination, frustration, anger or fear.
All the people I ship romantically with this character:
Natasha Romanoff, Steve Rogers, Tony Stark (usually Steve, Tony and Bucky are an OT3)
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
Oh no… Don’t make me choose, I’m a multishipper both platonically and romantically!! But if I had to choose one for all eternity, I guess Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes
My unpopular opinion about this character:
I think he really likes his metal arm. I’ve read stuff where he’s repulsed by it and I just don’t agree. That thing is super cool and I think Bucky would appreciate it, even if he didn’t want it initially. I also don’t think he was completely selfless when it came to Steve, which is something a lot of people portray him as. Both of them are best friends forever and Bucky is definitely mother bear protective and loyal, but there are also selfish reasons involved, for both of them.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
I want interaction between him and Tony in the MCU! I don’t care what it is, as long as they aren’t fighting (though that’d be neat too). I also wish there were more interactions in the comics, because I haven’t actually found a comic that had both Tony and Bucky hanging out in the same room and I’d like to see how they’d interact in canon. (hint hint: if you know of a comic, tell me?)
What kinds of features does your arm have?
I don't think I should be telling you this...
It has superhuman strength and I remember being told it can discharge electricity, though I don't remember how.
It also has sensors in it that can shield it to prevent detection, so I don't set metal detectors off.
It may also have trackers in it, if only I could get the damn thing off to find out.
if you were a dog what type of dog would you be?
I already feel like a dog.
Do you have a dog or want a dog?
I don't have a dog, but... I want one. I think.
