On this day in 2015 Splatoon was released in North American and Europe (Australia: 30th of May). The game was released for the Wii U and was a first-party title for Nintendo. The game concept started out as a competitive ink-based territory control game. This idea was expanded on and evolved into a third-person shooter with great single-player and multiplayer content. Splatoon was and still is very different to any shooter on current generation systems. The game was very original in its art-style and gameplay mechanics. It was initially met with positive reviews for its overall style and presentation, however, it was not without criticism. The lack of voice chat and private lobbies was a major hurdle that Nintendo struggles with even today. There was also very few multiplayer maps and modes available at launch which made the game feel very shallow and not worth the RRP. However, Nintendo did a great job supporting Splatoon after launch and provided free updates continuously throughout the lifecycle of the game. Nintendo even host competitions called 'Spatfest' Events which were time-limited and held between June 2015 and July 2016. The concepts and activities released after launch from Nintendo were based off feedback from fans, critics and of course the development team. Splatoon now has a die-hard fan base and is considered a must have title for any Wii U console owner. On July 21 2017, a sequel will be release for the Nintendo Switch which will have new game modes, weapons and game mechanics. I have already pre-ordered by copy. You can pre-order Splatoon 2 at most large retailers and online. #Nintendo #NintendoWiiU #WiiU #NintendoSwitch #NintendoEAD #Splatoon #Splatoon2 #Inkling #Inklings #ThirdPersonShooter #InkRoller #OnlineMultiplayer #CompetitiveMultiplayer #SplatFest #Singleplayer #NintendoFreeUpdates #Squid #2015VideoGame #2015ThirdPersonShooter #2016Manga #NintendoGame #NintendoGames #WiiUOnlyGame
