Q.77. What is required in the ninth commandment?
A. The ninth commandment requireth the maintaining and promoting of truth between man and man, and of our own and of our neighbor’s good name, especially in witness-bearing.
Ex. 20:16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.”
Ze. 8:16 “These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace...”
1 Pe. 3:16 “...having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.”
Acts 25:10 “But Paul said, ‘I am standing before Caesar’s tribunal, where I ought to be tried. To the Jews I have done no wrong, as you yourself know very well.’“
2 Jn. 12 “Though I have much to write to you, I would rather not use paper and ink. Instead I hope to come to you and talk face to face, so that our joy may be complete.”
