Choosing the right serum for you🙌
Serums are a great way to target specific skin concerns, in the day and at night. Whether you struggle with oiliness or your skin is dehydrated, there’s a serum out there to help you tackle these issues head-on. So let’s take a look at which serums are best suited to certain skin types 🧐
Oily skin - A great serum for oily skin is one that contains azelaic acid as its main ingredient. Azelaic acid improves skin texture, lightens discolouration and helps keep breakouts at bay. The Ordinary’s azelaic acid suspension is silicone-based, which means that it’ll soak up any excess oil on your skin and give you a lovely, matte finish while evening out skin tone over time.
Dry skin - Dry skin would benefit wonderfully from a hyaluronic acid serum. Hyaluronic acid works by retaining the moisture in your skin, and so your moisturiser will work a lot harder when layered on top of a serum including this ingredient. It can also protect your skin from pollution and give your skin a plumped-up look. As it’s not irritating, any skin type can reap its benefits too!
Sensitive skin - A serum containing dragon’s blood is a fab option for those with sensitive skin. It’s a type of tree resin that works by repairing, restoring and healing the skin, while adding a shot of hydration straight away. A popular dragon’s blood serum is one made by Nip + Fab, and it has great reviews for its ability to smooth and soften the skin. Another product you could try is the Water Boost Hydrating Booster by Simple - it soothes tight skin with its blend of minerals and plant extract.
Breakout-prone skin - A holy grail product for breakout-prone skin is a niacinamide serum. Niacinamide has an anti-inflammatory effect on spots and prevents others from forming, all while being gentle and non-irritating even with daily use. I absolutely love Revolution Skincare’s niacinamide serum, as a little goes a long way and it’s one of the only products that helps control my breakouts. It contains zinc too, which calms down spots in no time.
