The Pace Report: "The Resident Trumpeter" The Keyon Harrold Interview with Special Guest Bilal

For two nights at the famed Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City, trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Keyon Harrold blessed the stage in a two-night residency performing music from his upcoming project.

For over a decade Keyon has been one of the most requested studio and touring session musicians in the country backing the likes of Maxwell, D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Yasin Bey, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Gregory Porter, Robert Glasper, Common, Andre Crouch, and Rihanna. This Ferguson, Missouri native studied at the New School in New York City where he was classmates with Glasper and soul vocalist Bilal.

Last year Keyon collaborated with producer Robert Glasper for the soundtrack of the Miles Davis biopic "Miles Ahead" directed by actor Don Cheadle.

I had a chance to speak with Keyon during his performance at the Blue Note to talk about his latest single "Stay This Way" featuring vocalist Bilal and emcee Big K.R.I.T, his musical influences growing up, and how he became one of New York City's most in-demand session musicians. Also, interviews with friends and members of Keyon's band including Shedrick Mitchell, Burniss Travis, Bilal, and Marcus Baylor.
