Hey guys I actually really liked the finale— *shanked one trillion times Julius Caesar style*
(today was absurdly busy so no ic stuff but have this:)
alex’s baby shower, if it could be labeled as such, came with blood, pain and an existential crisis the likes of which alex shouldn’t have recovered from. it all comes from his core ability: consumption.
it seems convenient for a monster with uncaged morals: break your enemies, devour them whole, replace your lost vitality, and on top of that you have the genes, memories, and skills of your enemies. supply lines, chain of command, dates, locations, and whatever specialties they had were immediately placed in your hands. on paper, consuming your enemies sounds handy. here’s the kicker.
when alex was no more than thirty minutes old, he was lost and confused, and assumed himself an amnesiac because it made sense to do so. he didn’t know his own name, that he lacked one, where he was, why people were chasing him. one minute there was nothing, the next there was an entire world and it was closing in on him. he was shot, he ran, shot some more, and eventually when his body had reached its limit he collapsed in an alley. that’s when he came: first lieutenant james goodwin, the blackwatch operative who put a bullet in the prone alex’s head and assumed everything was done. he turned around, radioing command, and that’s when alex rose, lifted him into the air and cracked his neck against the concrete. that was the first man he consumed.
first lieutenant james goodwin, the first mind to add to his own, a lifetime of memories. a home, a family, friends, marriage, enlisting, being discovered by blackwatch, meeting general randal, deployment to new york, turning his back on mercer, the tendrils. alex had half an hour of total lifetime experience before suddenly, over forty-five years of vivid memories were forced into his head. a will, a life, and the only thing separating the two now merged entities was the fact that one remembered eating the other, while the other foggily remembered those horrible tentacles slithering over his body as his brain began to shut down.
( alex remembers everything his victims remember, and he remembers what they saw and felt as he ate them alive. the look in his eyes as he did so, the fear they felt. )
thirty minutes verses forty-five years. it’s a miracle alex was able to come back from that. freshly born and already dealing with an identity crisis, and the only thing spurring him to get his shit together was the newfound knowledge that he had a name: alex mercer, and alex mercer had a sister, who was in blackwatch custody. in danger.
he didn’t have a moment to breathe or think, he had to move. and that’s how he lived the first month of his life.
I just finished watching Ernani (Met, 2012). Are there any Verdi operas with a more pointless storyline than THIS???
Anyway, HELLO KINGS!
