oh great question, thank you! a canonical one would actually be post-HLTA after the spirit of the divine told her "[the anchor] cannot be removed without your death," cementing for her that the anchor is killing her and will kill her and that there is no after this is over for her. she doesn't sleep much at all that first night after HLTA, anyway, bc she still feels too close to nightmare's domain to feel safe being in the beyond, but she would let herself be held without also holding someone else.

but that's the kind of thing i mean. she has to be dealing with fraught, recent emotions that she hasn't had the time or space to work through.

Through action, above all! He might have cause to hold back in his words, but his actions will always speak loud and clear. The best example is the beginning of AWE. Will and Elizabeth aren't really talking at this point, and he fully believes she's both in love with Jack and is likely to leave him for Jack once they've rescued him. Yet, he doesn't hesitate to cover her through that entire fight in Singapore. There's not a moment he isn't looking out for her or putting a protective arm around her. Of course, this isn't the only example. There's also the way he specifically looks for Brown after coming back to the smithy in COTBP and smiles when he confirms Brown's where he left him. Or the way he draws his sword in preparation to fight off his own crew in DMTNT all to give Henry a chance to escape. And, there are so many more. He is a person of action above all, so action is the ultimate expression of love and care for him.

This is a tough one because I've gotten so attached to Several. I think I'm going to say, though, the first character I ever wrote. No matter how long it's been, I still think about him often. I've found that he's informed a lot of the characters I enjoy and end up picking up to write. So really he's the bedrock of much of my writing. If that doesn't qualify him as my favorite, I don't know what does lmao Like . . . He's cursed, he has strong themes of death, he's a questionable mentor / father figure, he has questionable morals but good motivations, he erased his own past, his narrative role is motivating people when they've lost all hope yet he lost all hope for himself decades ago — You see the through lines, yes?

Holly isn't my real name. Anyone who's known me a while is probably aware, but I like to throw it out occasionally because there's always someone who isn't and gets surprised. Amuses me greatly 😂
