Prof. JH Nketia Passes On
News reached us in the afternoon of Wednesday the 13th of March that Emeritus Prof. Joseph Hanson Kwabena Nketia, the African ethnomusicologist and one of the two founders of Ghanaian art music had passed away at the Legon Hospital.
He was 97 years old.
The professor was taken ill the week before, and had been in the care of a team of health professionals at the hospital at the University of Ghana. While he was slowly recovering, his health took a turn for the worse in the early hours of Wednesday, following a cardiac arrest.
The official time of death was 2:55 GMT.
