A stiff, somewhat cold, professional exterior masks a pretty awkward personality. She was a lonely child, and making polite small talk at the high society gatherings she attended with her father was the only real socializing she did for a long time (if you can even call it that). She knows how to make deals, but not how to make genuine connections. Authority figures and business professionals tend to find her polite and articulate, while her peers tend to find her standoffish and strange.
Background
When August was very young, she had a close relationship with her father. He had immigrated to the United States from Japan on his own to try and make a name for himself, so all they had was each other. As his business grew more and more successful, they were able to move out of their small one-room apartment and into nicer and nicer houses. Her father was away at work more often, and August was alone.
August was already a quiet child, but during this period she grew more and more withdrawn. Moving often meant she was constantly transferring in and out of schools. New kids made easy targets for bullies, and August never stayed in one place long enough to stop being the new kid. At night, when the stars came out, she would open her window and watch them for hours, and something inside her would relax for a while. During the day, she began to feel heavy and slow. It became harder and harder to stay awake during class, which did not endear her to her teachers.
In 2013, when August was twelve, she made herself disappear for the first time. She had been given detention for sleeping in class (again) and she knew a particularly cruel bunch of girls would be lying in wait for her. When she saw them coming, she ducked around a corner and into a shadow, wishing with her whole heart to hide from them. And suddenly, she was gone. She felt something like a cool mist swallow her up and when she looked down at her hands she saw nothing but gray darkness. The girls passed by without even looking at her.
When she told her father about the incident, he reluctantly told her what he knew about her mother, Nyx, but he clearly didn’t like talking about her. He asked August to keep her powers quiet and avoid drawing attention.
It wasn’t long after that he moved his company to New York and they settled into the luxury apartment where August would live for the next ten years. He pulled her out of school and hired tutors to take care of her education and bodyguards to protect her from human and inhuman threats. He also regularly attended high society functions in order to make connections with other powerful people and continue to grow his company, and she would often accompany him.
She studied hard and learned everything she could to help her father run his business. By the time she was twenty, she was working on his communications team and helping maintain close business relationships with their investors. She lived and breathed her work; the only thing she cared about was making her father happy. It worked, but she didn’t make time for anything else.
Not long after that, she met Theo and fell in love. He was the heir to a prominent technology company that her father wanted to work with, so she was able to make plenty of excuses to see him. He was loud, and bright, and passionate, and utterly unlike any of the other people she worked with. He liked making things with his hands, and he was happy to teach her how to do the same. She thought she could learn how to be someone different with him.
She started sneaking out at night to see him, and one night when they were out together, they were attacked by monsters. August tried to pull Theo into the shadows with her to hide, but when he saw her power, he recoiled in fear. He ran from her, and the monsters killed him. She could do nothing but sit in the darkness and watch.
Disgusted by her own powerlessness, she decided to join Nemean Lion to learn how to defend herself and others. In the Technology track, she hopes to learn how to build things that mortals can use to defend themselves from monsters. She doesn’t have any particular knack for engineering, so she has to study constantly, but it feels right to work with her hands the way Theo had tried to teach her.
If you’d like to seek her out during the day, you can usually find her studying in the library when she’s not in training. She spends most evenings messing around in the workshop or stargazing. If you need some tech, she may be able to help you, but be warned that her more ... experimental gadgets may not be in perfect working order just yet.

((triggers: death / drowning accident)) he's 13 when his life changes for the first time. it's a typical night — sneaking onto one of their privately owned beaches; half empty bottles sticking from the sands, joints being passed around, the sound of old music playing from a portable radio — the splash of water, the eternity that being young feels like. everyone's high, and klaus is in and out of sleep, and they should wake up faster after the second eldest noisanthia guttural screams from the water. it's a minute too late — when the oldest of the three is rushing into the water, when the others follow suit; when klaus is finally waking up. the song is still playing (well into the chorus), the alcohol is finally empty now; and his older brother is dead.
it's somehow easier to not think about and klaus does just that. it seems like everyone else agrees on the plan, too. if it's even possible, his parents became more quiet and much more distant. the funeral goes by smoothly, and life goes on, but their family seems stuck in that summertime. the eldest of the family is off to college while klaus readies themself to enter high school. the noisanthia family home is forever eerie — very empty and quite hollow. like something from the world took a chunk out and it's never been recovered. nothing is as fun anymore without it being the three of them, and no night out ever feels the same. it's around this time that klaus' unhappiness molds into cruelty, and when his ability [ peace manipulation ] begins to manifest. a little embarrassing considering their fc played the second lead in boys over flowers but major domyoji syndrome! it / golden boy of his school and the richest kid, the student body was at his every whim bc social climbing and who wouldn't want to know (ahem, network through) some guy that's related to some royals??? he got to do whatever he wanted and everyone + the staff basically just went 🙈 like aha noooo we don't see klaus acting like a dickwad aha noooo we aren't being paid to say that because they donate to the school🤭

phoenixes have never been quite as romanticized, or feared, as other immortal creatures. fangsu doesn’t consider herself a monster in the conventional sense...at least not for obvious reasons. there is something monstrous in the idea of watching everyone you love die while you continue on life after life. and, luckily for fang, it is just an idea. for now. she was born in the eighties and has yet to die, which almost makes her feel like a normal person.
minus the fireballs and flying and magical tears but those are all things that are pretty easy to hide. fangsu actually finds her phoenix form to be exceptionally beautiful, but it also only highlights her loneliness.
which is why she jumped at the chance to come to nl! even if they don’t understand what it’s like to be her, at least they know what she is. which isn’t something she generally shares with humans. well, she did once, and that was a terrible mistake.
like all good fairytales, it started with true love. and loyal to the brothers grimm’s formula, it featured a tragic death. almost. fangsu has been in love only once, and it ended with heartbreak. not because he died, but because he didn’t. when it seemed he was fatally injured, the tears came freely, and along with them, his life was saved.
happily ever after, right? unfortunately, instead of thanking her for saving his life, he was repulsed that she was actually a monster all along. she was a liar, playing god, and all her success as a doctor was due to magic instead of hard work. nevermind that being a phoenix hadn’t helped her at all in studying for exams and earning her degrees, but anyway!
she’s happy to lend a hand in the infirmary, healing people more like herself than any human could ever be. it’s also sort of a challenge for herself, getting to work around individuals who heal differently than her usual patients and also have wild ass injuries comparatively

that said, she’s really kind, likes helping people and the idea that she can make a difference in someone’s life but she can seem kind of reserved, she def filters her thoughts and chooses her words carefully which can come off kind of calculating something
fangsu was a working doctor in china and moved to the states for a fellowship or something idk :) a few years ago. so her english is still a work in progress but she’s been getting a lot of practice in the past few years

It was a love story between a street fighter and a doctor. Ares who had caught up in a gang fight, the chaos and destruction of it all called out to him. While stronger than the mortals, he still retained some injuries. It wasn’t a real fight unless you got injured, so he walked away with blood coming from his mouth and bruises all over his body. He could’ve easily left his mortal body and gone back home but it was there he saw her. Hands deep in her pockets and a cigarette in her mouth, she blew smoke into his face just before saying, ‘ you look fucked up, come to my clinic. ‘. That was the beginning of the love between the God of War and Loretta.
It was brief, their time together, but it was good enough for them. Months later the two had a child whom they named Jeremiah. Loretta raised little Jeremiah on her own while also running her own clinic. Neither knew the true identity of his father but the two did not care, he was just some guy to them. Why worry about some random individual who never tried to get to know you? Not only that, it wasn’t like Loretta loved the other or held a grudge against him for leaving— she wasn’t that petty of a woman. All she needed was her son, nothing more.
Jeremiah, to her surprise, turned out a lot like his father. He was aggressive and violent, always getting into fights and living in the moment of victory. And when he lost, oh it was a sight to see as he raged and throw a tantrum at the lost. Combined that with his mother’s nonchalant personality, he was a sight to see. Always getting hurt and then having to fix himself up afterwards— his mother taught him that. ‘ you can fight all you want, just as long as you can properly bandage yourself afterwards. ‘ One could see that as a mother trying to love down on her child, Jeremiah saw it as the older woman wanting to use him later in her clinic.
Which he did. Every afternoon after school, Jeremiah would come back to help in her own clinic. It was small, only having one back room with four beds, and a front desk that could hold seven people at a time. Just above it was the Kelley family’s apartment. He switched from welcoming people in and giving his mother the tools that she needed to work. Was it legal? Absolutely not. Did Loretta care? Absolutely not. There, she taught her son all about the human body, how to properly bandage someone, how to sew someone up, the likes. And he took to it like a bird to a worm.
Going down the medical track had always been a dream for him. As he grew older, he was in the clinic more than outside trying to fight the other kids. The goal was to become a doctor and take over his mother’s clinic for her, make it a family business. However, his whole life changed when he turned fourteen. Attacked by a monster when on his way home, the beast wanting to end his life because he was a demigod. The news was a complete shock as he was not aware of his own lineage. Lucky enough, there were a group of demigods who came to his rescue, though at the same time, he found himself joining into the fight. It was the thrill and desire to battle as Jeremiah imagined for something to help him with the fight. I wished that I had my metal bat with me, he thought to himself. And just like that, it was there in his hand. Whoa. Now that was probably more surprising than the monster and demigods that came to his rescue.
The fight ended in their success and the satisfaction of winning a big fight flowing through his blood. This began the road towards his new life. For his own safety and for those around him, Jeremiah left with the demigods to Nemean Lion. There he learned of what he was and his ability. The son of Ares, honestly, that wasn’t a surprise for anyone. It made perfect sense in every which way. He stayed there until he was eighteen before he went off to college to begin his journey towards a medical degree. The son of Ares as a doctor? What a surprise.
College and graduate studies was, well, difficult and stressful but not once did he give up. He cared too much about his dream of becoming a doctor, it was going to happen no matter what. During his time at school, he found himself falling in love with a woman. A soon to be doctor herself, it was very Grey’s Anatomy vibes ( idk man, I don’t watch shows about doctors ). The two dated and not just that temporary type of business, there was consideration of starting a family together. And they did start. Thus introducing Lincoln, their son who brought nothing but joy into their lives. Especially Jeremiah’s.
It could’ve been perfect, their whole plan, but it ended just four years after. The two fell out of love for each other, nothing terrible, just the spark wasn’t there like before. The two get along and were still friends, they came together whenever it was necessary for Lincoln though. Jeremiah ended up getting custody over Lincoln, just because he was already out of school and had his own practice in California.
Basically that dad friend but like the cool and young dad friend. That straight friend who cheers you on from afar. That shady doctor who you shouldn’t trust but still do because damn he’s good at his job. That’s it, Jeremiah Kelley everyone!

everett as born and raised in a rather traditional home. his parents had the picture perfect life of being a “traditional” american family. he has an older sister who went off to study engineering which was their father’s major while their mother had always worked for a nonprofit. everett was set on being an engineer like his father when he was younger but life had always had other plans for him. despite wanting to lead a normal life, he always knew about who he truly came from and that he was possibly destined for something bigger, something heroic.
he was raised to have perfect manners and respect for those around him. despite his appearance he has always been quick to offer help to someone or attempt to befriend anyone who seems like they’d want to reciprocate said friendship. at times, he tends to be awkward or say things that don’t exactly make sense because he becomes increasingly nervous talking to people that he doesn’t know.
instead of running of straight to college or even straight to nemean lion, everett decided to take those couple of years to travel. maybe it was in an attempt to find himself or maybe just for the sense of adventure but he wishes now more than ever that he could take that decision back. on one said trip, everett met a girl named margaret that he quickly fell in love with, the feelings were mutual and she decided to join him in his temporary adventures. there was nothing that could go wrong, nothing anyone could say that would make everett feel anything other than ecstatic.
until, of course, everything did go wrong. not because of either of them but because one night a group of drunk men were about to hit the couple with their car, everett managed to move out of the way but his attempts to push margaret out were in vain. he lost her that night and he lost a huge part of himself as well. at the moment, it felt as if he lost all of himself.
he often has nightmares of the accident and of the drive in the back of ambulance where she was still trying to hold on to her life. about a week later, everett ran into the men responsible for it all. he recognized the car immediately and the men recognized him. they began shouting at him, thinking that he had followed them. they approached him with clear intentions, getting more than a couple of punches between all of them before everett reacted and although everything felt like a blur that he was watching from the outside, he remembers at some point someone pulling out a knife and after that all he remembers is ending up in jail.
he spent almost three years locked up before the court ruled that the man who’d been found dead after the entire incident hadn’t been killed by everett. while he was content for his freedom, he isn’t so sure that it wasn’t actually his doing. as a last resort, everett decided to come to nemean. he tries to keep almost every part of his past a secret, not trusting even those closest to him with that information. it matters to him how people see him but he also torments himself every day for being absolutely humiliated by his own past.
