I got 99% in my October 2019 NMAT yeheyyy
I took NMAT twice. I got 93% at first take in March 2017 and 99% at second take in October 2019. When I received the result of my March 2017 NMAT, I was disappointed because I aimed to have at least 98% as I had a classmate who got that percentile rank. However, I felt that I deserved it because I did not prepare for the exam. Now, I still could not believe how I achieved it. Maybe I was really lucky.
Considering that I was not able to enter medical school 2 years after the exam, I still think that my 2017 NMAT was not a waste. It prepared me to set new strategies for my second take. I focused on my weaknesses such as Social Science, Physics, Chemistry and Inductive Reasoning. For Social Science, I read the whole book of Psychology MCAT Reviewer. I also took notes from every chapter and read the notes daily 2 months before the exam. I got 800 for this subject. For Physics and Chemistry, I first reviewed the concepts thru UPLink modules and ppts. I also answered all exercises, quizzes and tests of UPlink. Answering CEM practice tests and further delving on the topic per question also equipped me for these subjects. I got 680 in Physics and 800 in Chemistry.
I procrastinated for my review in Inductive Reasoning because I found this area really difficult. I felt that as a student, I was only excellent because I was able to memorize stuff. On the contrary, Inductive Reasoning requires real intelligence that I do not possess. Since I didn’t have a choice and no matter how I cuss this subject, it would still appear in NMAT. Hence, I practiced regularly. I searched for any test that I could find in the internet. I got 595, which is 8 points higher than my previous score (not bad, although it is the lowest score).
For quantitative reasoning, I applied the same strategy as of Chemistry and Physics. Uplink module on this subject was really helpful. At first, I found the problem solving part in the CEM practice test challenging, but reading the module on the process of answering problems shed me hope and light. The UPLink module really kept me going. <3 I got 632. I thought that I will be able to get full marks for this subject because it was really easy especially the fundamental operations. I guess there were more takers who were more brilliant and maybe perfected this part.
I did not practice much for the verbal and perceptual acuity. For verbal, I thought let it be let it be. I mean I cannot increase my vocabulary in a short period to be able to answer the analogy part. I also thought that I had been reading and understanding texts my whole life. If there were more takers who were better, I could not do anything about it. Perceptual acuity was my highest score in my previous NMAT because I answered it second after verbal. I prioritized it than inductive and quantitative since it was easier. I thought that this strategy will be useful in my second take, but the perceptual acuity in 2019 NMAT especially the Hidden Figures and Mirror parts were intended for future forensic investigator. Gosh it was really hard and costed me toooo much time. Still, I got 662.
I am a BS Biology graduate, hence I expected to excel in Biology. But nah. I got 662 instead of the mighty 800. Overall, I am satisfied with my 99 Percentile Rank. To whoever reading this I assume that you are preparing for the exam. I pray that you do good as well. <3 Good luck.
