WE ARE FOUND OBJECTS - THANDAZANI NOFINGXANA
Colours Of You South Africa hosted Creative Connect 2017,an apparent preparation to the annual creative festival that usually takes place in November, however this year they wanted to bring creatives together before the big event so when November comes we’ve probably connected and made contacts as creatives prior(which is pretty cool) . Last year i showcased 6 of my A3 textile prints (RichIsBlackandViceVersa’s first exhibition),Yesterday was a continuation of the same theme just focusing on a slightly different topic but using the same prints from last year.
These prints are photographic images turned into motifs then repeat design, for this year i took an even more experimental route, which include photography, printed out photostats of prints, found objects and some origami, eggs, cups, threads, wool anything i could find around my room.
Hence this is is called We Are Found Objects,i literally just looked around and used what i had,i also used the aesthetic of typology the idea /a classification according to general type. On this series i used an image of myself taken by Marc El Herve and made it the focal point of all my 9 designs with the different textile print backdrops,An image that one could say resembles the famous sculpture The Thinker by by Auguste Rodin, weirdly i noticed this on the day of the event because i saw one of the people’s board with ‘The Thinker’ and it just clicked like heeeeey man :) i guess Its the human frequencies, connecting lol and it feels good to find yourself kind of reliving something but in a totally different space .
All 9 prints are named FRAGILE (with caps on), Tittles fore me a re quite important as they give you an idea of what the artist was trying to convey, for me Fragile came as both an element of these design, everything they contain and just the overall aesthetics. Why with capital letter? Fragile would suggest I’m easily broken but if you look at the relationship between FRAGILE and the prints,an idea of steadiness and rigidness can be found even though my posture and dressing says i am vulnerable but I’m standing almost as the sculpture the thinker. The triangle of my head makes it even harder for one to look at my emotion, prints combine creates the sense of loneliness but with that yellow Organite Pyramid on my head you cant really tell but the posture is one thing one can sort of analysis.
so yeah :) but its totally up to you how you interpret this.
