BABIES CRUMBS
BOTANNNN
Right so I'll start off with the obvious, Kuran shows a lot of emotions in this chapter
Mainly shock but most importantly, sadness or remorse for his dead best friend. He's contemplating, thinking about his friend who he lost and thinking about Kou, who he has sworn to take care of. Which I think is why he doesn't show any emotions, at least not much anymore. Maybe he lost feelings when his best friend died right in front of his eyes, and for him, showing any emotions other than being straight faced is hard for him since it might feel like he's betraying Botan by doing so. While it sounds crazy, I know how certain people cope with dead, especially when it comes to people who are close to them, and this isn't that far of a stretch to assume. Unless he just has a permanent RBF, in which case I still love you anyways Kuran ♡
Something something, Kou's whole philosophy of living for himself stemming from the fact he lost his brother to Botan protecting someone else but also from the fact he doesn't want to feel responsible for somebody dying and wasting their life for him (*look at Kuran and the whole Ikebukuro team*) something something you only have your own life so live it for yourself first and foremost something something a lot of his contempt for Hibaru stems from the fact Kour himself is being spoiled by the Ikebukuro team and he hates it but Hibaru hasn't lost anyone yet and Hibaru has the same reasoning Botan had and Kou cannot handle the memory something something Kou had had to watch closer than anyone else Kuran lose himself something something he felt - partially at least - responsible for it because Kuran changed for him in part something something
I GOT SPOILERS AND I NEED TO SHARE A THEORY ON ONE SO DONT READ IF YOU DONT WANT SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 6 OF ASTRO ROYALE/NEGAI NO ASTRO
I would like yall to know that I did theorize both the asura theme and the lighter to come from Botan and that I have proofs I did
Kou and Kuran both made a wish for each other, using Botan as reference to power
Asura comes from Botan – for Kou, having Botan's strength for himself and not having to be protected by it meant protecting Kuran, freeing him from the responsibilities he jailed himself in
– for Kuran, shape-shifting into Botan means being able to keep his promise, take good care of Kou, and also keeping the past alive by becoming it which isn't that hard to start with since his self got erased after Botan's death. Kou needs Botan more than he needs him
Both think that by reaching Botan's strength (Kou) or impersonating him (Kuran) – the other won't have to worry and suffer anymore
When
When there's the theme of grief
When
When characters dead before the story even started still impact it
When
When characters are shaped by their grief and can't escape it
