I’m not gonna maintag this although maybe I should, but I have something to say about the whole protective Fjord/Jester can protect herself thing.
Without a doubt, it’s true that Jester can protect herself. She is 10000% capable. But you know what? Sometimes protecting yourself is exhausting. Sometimes, it’s nice to know that you have someone in your corner. Telling someone that you care about them and are not okay with them being put at risk doesn’t mean that you doubt their ability to take care of themself. It means that they don’t have to do it alone.
Being independent is great. But if you don’t ask for help when you need it, you’re hindering yourself. Sometimes, it’s nice to let your friends take care of you.
And like... Fjord isn’t undermining her independence or empowerment. Have people even seen the amount of times he’s been in super embarrassing situations that Jester has gotten him out of? The amount of times they’ve saved each other and watched out for each other? They’re a super healthy example of what it’s like to watch out for and protect and take care of a friend without stepping on their identity or independence.
