When I started to really explore my gender identity, I knew I wasn't feeling like I was a boy nor a girl. I found about non-binary people, and thought 'that must be it !'
But then.. what kind of non-binary was I ? (I love labels)
Then I found about dragongender. It felt OK, but at the same time, not enough. It was not that my gender was dragon, it was even more fundamental than that. More like.. my species was dragon. And it made sense ! I had been telling people that I was a dragon for YEARS at that point. Yeah, absolutely, I was a dragon. Then I remembered having found something online a few years prior, called 'otherkin'... I delved into it, and that's how I joined the community.
But what about my gender then ? And the more I thought about it, the more clear it became : I wouldn't have a gender if I had my dragon body, living in my dragon territory (my species is solitary, and gender only makes sense within a society, to my understanding). But inhabiting a human body within a human society, I do have a sense of gender identity. I'm still not sure what it is exactly, but I know it cannot be 'woman' or 'man', and I know being dragonkin strongly influences my gender identity.
So I guess my gender is dragon, but in the way of 'my gender is not that important, my species means so much more to my identity that it bleeds through my understanding of gender'
And living as a non-binary human makes me incredibly happy, and the closest I can be to my dragon self, so I go with it, at least until further notice 🔥🐉✨️
