Summary:
a bedtime (⸝⸝ᴗ_ᴗ⸝⸝) z z 𐰁 stories podfic
featuring: Pre-Captain America: The First Avenger, Mutual Pining, Brooklyn, Childhood Friends, Falling In Love, Slow Burn, in fact, “the literal slowest burn of stucky as they go through their entire lives as pining idiots in love”, or so I'm told, Idiots in Love, Bisexual Bucky Barnes, Bisexual Steve Rogers, the barnes family, which I had a whole lot of fun with ngl, chapter specific warnings where necessary, the boys had a life and a family before the war, the sweetest part is the torture before they get together, and this fic is the literary embodiment of the grinning devil emoji summary: Before there was Captain America, before there was even a war, there were two idiots in Brooklyn, just getting by every day, living a life, trying very hard not to let it show that they had, as a matter of fact, fallen in love with each other.
Snippet:
It's not the first time that Bernie's been the victim of the day instead of Steve. He and his little brothers are often the target on their block, because they're Jewish and new and have few other kids to speak up for them. Steve's only ever seen one of their cousins fight on their side, come to think of it.
Frankie's throwing insults at Bernie while Jimmy's kicking him in the side, hard enough that it has Bernie gasp with pain - and Steve sees red. Before he even knows what he's doing, he's running up behind Jimmy, all but jumping on his back, little fists flying, hauling him back and shoving him against the brick wall on the right.
“Leave him alone,” Steve spits at the Carmichael boys and holds out a hand to Bernie, who looks at Steve with big eyes, surprised and puzzled and a little shocked, like Steve's just grown a second head.
“Would ya look at that,” Frankie sneers at them. “Tiny Rogers trying to play hero.”
“Stay outta this,” Jimmy says, standing next to his brother. They're both almost a head taller than Steve, but he has his thin arms and bony fists raised all the same. Bernie, next to Steve, wipes his nose and holds his side, but his shoulders are tense, like he's ready to fight too.
