i used to participate in poetry slams pretty regularly for a short period of time at my old university, super small ones. one time immediately after germany had fucking finally legalized gay marriage i slammed about how adoption rights were still all kinds of fucked, and i quoted our then chancellor who had said that she was unsure about it because she was worried for the child's wellbeing, and after i was done a guy in the audience raised his hand and said, "um, i was just wondering, the merkel quote, can you source that?"
