They referenced the fact that Will hasn't kissed anybody yet. Do you understand. They referenced the fact that Will hasn't kissed anybody yet.

@roman-god-of-ikea just prompted me to have a realization.
Door One: You take your own life
Door Two: Accept your fate
OR the season finale:
ESCAPE.
"The enigma machine won the war, knowledge is power" - Robin to Will, season 5 episode 2
The enigma machine was created by Alan Turing. A gay man.
Will's power in episode 4 came from his acceptance of his queerness.
I don't know how I just realized it but the absolutely applicable to queerness and Mike line that is:
You only have a few doors open to you. You can escape.
Or you can accept your fate.
What if I said Mike participating in the "comparing girlfriends" thing with Dustin in 4x01 was actually to drive home the point that he has a girlfriend for social performance and relating
"Did he say he'd kill you?"
"What? No"
Only exists to reaffirm that the only threat Hopper actually gave Mike that rattled him was the information itself that there was something "very wrong" about how he acted with El.
Hopper did not threaten Mike further or severely in the car ride home. Had it been pertinent, we would have been shown. Mike is rattled because of Hopper said there's a flaw in his heterosexuality, and ONLY because of that
We know this because threats like "then maybe if you're lucky I will allow you to date my daughter" are as flimsy as the "you will under no circumstances go out looking for Will tonight" ones from the same man that he defied openly, casually, and with ease.
He punched that man in the stomach repeatedly. He isn't scared of him not threatening to kill him.
But I am never over how implied threats from the police chief are far less threatening to this boy than his girlfriend's Dad saying "you act weird with El, romantically"
That fucking terrified him
The difference is stark.
They made a point of writing Jason to threaten specifically Mike and we don't talk about that enough.
"Your brother, he here with you by chance?" "Mike?" "Mike."
"Let's see if this kid is a wizard or a schizo, doc" -2x06
Well...
