bringing this back up because why tf did they parallel mike and will to a canonical gay couple? like what was the reason other than to bait queer people? what purpose did this scene being a 1:1 replication of lukas and philip's fight have? down to the "I'm not gay like you" vs "it's not my fault you don't like girls" the scenes are almost identical. idk how many people in the general audience watched eyewitness but s3 mike and will parallel lukas and philip hard.
like the boy mike parallels in this scene is currently dating a girl to hide the fact that he has feelings for a boy as he's scared of his father finding out. his emotionally distant and conservative father...sounds awfully like someone we know? *cough* it's ted *cough*
anyways, they also both have a scene where they kiss their girlfriend with their eyes wide open and look uncomfortable and in lukas' case he was dealing with internalised homophobia and insecurity but who am I to judge mike 🤷🏻♀️
and the parallels gets worse because will and philip's arcs are so similar it's honestly cruel. they're both much more aware of their feelings and sexuality though are still closeted. they both struggle with self acceptance in a small town. they were both bullied and called gay by others. they both have a parent that is an addict and were abandoned/removed from said parents custody. and it's never them who is unsure of how they feel about the other, it's never them pushing the other away.
now tell me queer people made it all up in their head when they actively called upon queer media. you don't do that unless you want queer people to make connections.
