Department of Labor Offers No-Cost Business Services, Tax Credits and Training Support
The New York State Department of Labor has no-cost resources and millions of dollars available to help you grow your business.
Training: The Department of Labor has funding available for businesses across the state to help train workers. On-the-Job Training can fund up to $7,900 per employee for wage reimbursement. Customized Training can fund up to $5,000 per employee for class-sized training, up to $3,000 per employee for apprenticeship training, up to $2,500 per employee for customized training and up to $625 per employee for remedial training.
Strikeforce: Under Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Unemployment Strikeforce, the New York State Department of Labor and Empire State Development are partnering on a multi-pronged campaign to target areas with high unemployment rates (Bronx, Jefferson, Lewis, Kings, St. Lawrence, Oswego, Orleans, Montgomery, Franklin and Steuben counties). We will work with businesses to match available skilled workers to open jobs, develop training and education programs and find incentives for which you may be eligible.
No-Cost Recruitment Services: The Department of Labor will organize, host and promote tailored career fairs and recruitment events at no cost to businesses or job seekers. Businesses using Department of Labor services can save up to $20,000 on a customized fair, up to $12,000 on a staff-assisted recruitment event and up to $6,000 per year on job postings.
No-Cost Labor Law Compliance Assistance: Business can also save up to $4,400 with safety and health consultations and can avoid $1,500 per employee in potential violations with Labor Law compliance seminars.
Hire-a-Vet Tax Credit: This tax credit encourages businesses to hire unemployed veterans who were released from active duty after Sept. 11, 2001. Businesses can earn up to $5,000 for hiring a qualified veteran and up to $15,000 for hiring a disabled veteran.
New York Youth Works: The New York Youth Works Program encourages the hiring of unemployed, disadvantaged youth, age 16 to 24, who live in one of 13 designated target areas (Albany, Buffalo, New York, Rochester, Schenectady, Syracuse, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Utica, White Plains, Yonkers, Brookhaven and Hempstead). Businesses may earn tax credits of up to $5,000 for hiring a youth full-time and up to $2,500 for hiring a youth part-time.
