Report on our last meeting (17/1/2017)

Minutes of the Teesside People's Assembly​ meeting held on 17 January are now available for download at https://goo.gl/HUqu1B.

At this meeting we made plans for taking part in the #OurNHS demonstrations in Newcastle (4 February) and London (4 March), and discussed a number of other anti-austerity and anti-racist actions we are supporting.

Our secretary Steve Cooke​ stepped down from the role he has held since TPA's formation in autumn 2013, although he will remain involved in the group, helping in particular with social media work.

#OurNHS - Agenda for Teesside PA action planning meeting, 17 January 2017

You are invited to our next action planning meeting, which will be held on Tuesday 17 January at 7.15pm in St Mary's Centre, 82-90 Corporation Road, Middlesbrough TS1 2RW.

The agenda includes actions to raise awareness of the imminent cuts and privatisation in the NHS as a result of so-called 'Sustainability and Transformation Plans'. Protests are being planned locally, regionally and nationally.

There's also a national day of action against benefit sanctions (20 January) and a number of anti-racist protests are coming up soon.

Decisions from our 3/3/2015 meeting

At our meeting on Tuesday 3 March 2015:

We elected James Doran as our convenor after Alex Brooke stepped down from the role. We thanked Alex for his contribution to TPA’s work

We agreed to hold an annual general meeting, at which all roles within TPA will be open for election, in June or July

We reaffirmed our solidarity with Unite Community’s #No2sanctions national day of action against benefit sanctions and will support the actions planned for Darlington, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Stockton on 19 March

We reviewed our involvement in #LoveNHS actions in Hartlepool and Darlington on 14 February and Saltburn on 19 February and we agreed to congratulate the Save Our Hartlepool Hospital, 999 Call for the NHS and 4 People Not Profit groups on their success

We discussed the 999 Convention for the NHS, held on 28 February, and looked forward to the publication of details on the outcome of the event

We discussed progress on our plans for an action against NHS privatisation and a post-election public event

We congratulated Newcastle Unites for its organisation of the anti-Pegida demo on 28 February and Teesside against Racism, Islamophobia and Fascism for ensuring a strong presence from Teesside

We expressed solidarity with the Fast Food Rights campaign and agreed to support any local actions for its global day of action on 15 April

We discussed the implications of decisions made at recent national and regional meetings of the People’s Assembly movement

We agreed to explore the possibility of another regional gathering to share good practice between People’s Assembly branches

We reaffirmed our solidarity with the Fire Brigades Union’s continuing industrial action

We agreed to support any actions being organised to protest against local government cuts

We agreed to run a stall at the 4 People Not Profit festival in Saltburn on 5 September.

Agenda for our 3/3/2015 meeting

The next meeting of Teesside People's Assembly against Austerity will be held on Tuesday 3 March at 7.15pm in St Mary's Centre, 82-90 Corporation Road, Middlesbrough TS1 2RW.

The agenda includes the #LoveNHS actions our supporters have taken part in this month - ie, Save Hartlepool Hospital rally, stall in Darlington and film night in Saltburn, plans for a follow-up action and plus a report back from our delegate at the 999 Convention for the NHS, which is being held this Saturday.

We will also be discussing the demonstration against Islamophobic group Pegida due to take place in Newcastle on Saturday, Unite Community's #No2sanctions day of action against benefit sanctions, the firefighters' strike, national actions being planned by the People's Assembly and ideas for working more effectively with other PA branches.
