Solidarity & Mutual Aid Event with Film Showing
As society plunges deeper into crisis, it's clear that we need 'Solidarity and Mutual Aid' more than ever. Fighting isolation and disempowernent through standing together and supporting each other is more than just a nice idea and increasingly integral to our getting by.
With this theme in mind, @teessidesolidarity and @TeesSocialistClothingBank co- host this timely event. We hope this event facilitate a valuable networking opportunity and bring together activists and community groups involved in direct response social projects.
Alongside a panel discussion and pay by donation lunch, we will be showing the acclaimed Ken Loach move 'I Daniel Blake'. This film has brought to the forefront issues of poverty and Britain's brutal Benefits regime - we remind particpants to this event that it was TSM who acted as the instigator of what became the subsequent campaign against benefit sanctions, taken up acriss the UK by the Community arm of UNITE the union.
So making sure we begin 2017 in the best possible way, bring your hearts, your ideas and help us build 'Solidarity and Mutual Aid' in our communities.

Fahrenheit Books Moving Fund
Fahrenheit Books is expanding, and we need your help! So please donate, or pop in and buy something from us Fahrenheit Books is a workers co-operative, and Middlesbrough's only independent bookshop. Over the last two years, we have become part of Middlesbrough's cultural landscape and have plenty of regular customers and friends in the community. We recycle old books and stop them from being pulped and thrown away, and ensure they are used for a social benefit. We are also a distribution and collection point for the Teesside Socialist Clothing Bank and are in discussion with a number of other good causes locally. We also plan to open an honesty cafe in our new premises, and to provide free spaces for local political, creative and social justice groups. However, as we're outgrowing our premises, we would like to relocate to a larger unit, allowing us to expand our diverse and interesting stock, and provide better spaces for our community, and the costs of this are higher than we can afford. This is why we are appealing to our friends, supporters and anyone who would like to see a thriving cultural scene in Middlesbrough to help us achieve this dream. So please, whatever you can donate, no matter how small or how large, will be put to good use providing a creative and useful space for the community.

Free Shop
Working to principles of support and mutuality, here's a brilliant project. It's a monthly 'Free Shop' where people can share what they can and take stuff they need: clothes, toiletries, toys, etc. Well worth dropping in on Saturday the 8th August at the Community Hub, Union Street, Newport, Middlesbrough. The History and Necessity of Militant Anti-Fascism
Fascism is not a thing of the past. In this era of crisis and austerity, it is growing even stronger. The question is: How do we stop it?
To celebrate the autumn opening of the newly expanded bookshop, Teesside Anarchist Network and Fahrenheit Books proudly present an anti-fascist spoken word event. Asking you to lay aside your faith in liberal, legislative, and state-approved approaches to today’s fascist threat, our special guest speaker, using a mixture of orthodox history, eyewitness accounts, and unflinching analysis, will make the case for a resolutely militant anti-fascism, one that gives no quarter and tolerates no excuses; a story of victory and struggle, past and present, designed to inspire and energize militants.
This event will also include stalls from AK Press and others.
This is not to be missed.

Teesside Women Against Austerity March
Teesside as a whole is one of the poorest parts of the UK, with high levels of unemployment and disability. It is an area of the country forgotten by the Tory government and once even referred to as "desolate". Teesside is also an area of the UK that in the main did not vote to be represented by a Tory government, which will never have its best interests at heart.
The social issues here are staggering: high levels of unemployment, high levels of disability, significant health issues, lower standards of education, high demand for Foodbanks (which are running out of stock), a homelessness problem, a significant drug abuse problem and more. None of these issues are being addressed by the Tory government. In fact, they are being made worse.
We invite anybody to join us on the 22nd of August for a march against austerity, in which we will call on the government to treat us like human beings. This march has been organised by Teesside Women Against Austerity, a group of women who want to stand up for what is right.
We will set off from Kingston Road in Stockton, where Benefits Street, a program set out to vilify the poor (thankfully unsuccessfully!) was recorded and march to the fountains in the centre of Stockton. There, we will be greeted by music and a chance for people to come together as a community and take strength from each other.
The march will be child, women and disabled friendly and we ask anyone to join us in that spirit. United we stand! ♥
